THE 14TH KING GEORGE'S OWN SIKHS: The 1st Battalion (K.G.O.)(Ferozepore Sikhs), The 11th Sikh Regiment

The Regiment originally recruited local Sikhs and Punjabi Muslims, but in 1866, Punjabi Muslims were phased out and the regiment became a single class regiment of Sikhs. In the 1922 reorganization, 14th Ferozepore Sikhs was designated 1st Battalion of 11th Sikh Regiment. The regiment is best known for their part in the Third Battle of Krithia at Gully Ravine, suffering casualties of 12 out of 15 British officers and 11 our of 14 Indian officers.
