PAPER PANZER: Prototypes and What If Tanks
Some modelers are increasingly interested in exploring new fields, and allowing themselves some artistic license. This type of vehicle is becoming increasingly important among the many brands for launching news and information on new releases. There has been a boom in this type of modeling, and every time there is a new release it awakens more curiosity among modelers around the world.
This book offers original ideas to address alternative projects. We will see where the concept of Panzer Papers comes from and its differences with the what if models, besides inspiring us with profiles of all kinds. It will feature many of the best modelers in the world using the present techniques and will show us how to make some of these vehicles and will leave nothing different behind. 1 vol, 208 pgs

Adams-Graf, John U.S. MRAPS IN ACTION
In 2006, President George Bush declared it 'priority number one,' to defeat the threat of improvised explosive devices. US MRAPs in Action illustrates the military's rapid response in developing and deploying mine-resistant ambush-protected vehicles that ultimately overcame the threat of roadside bombs in Iraq and Afghanistan.
More than 225 color photos present in detail all the major MRAPs: RG-31s, RG-33s, Cougars, Caimans, MaxxPros, and MATVs. Also included are the early deployed M1117 ASVs as well as Husky and Buffalo route-clearance vehicles. Color photography and detailed captions take the mystery out of identifying the myriad US-deployed MRAP vehicles, first deployed in 2006 and continue to protect service men and women. 1 vol, 80 pgs

Anderson Thomas FERDINAND AND ELEFANT: Tank Destroyers
This is the story of the largest and statistically most successful tank destroyer of World War II. The Ferdinand was a true behemoth, and although only 91 examples were built, they took a savage toll of Soviet armour in the Battle of Kursk and subsequent operations on the Eastern Front.
This study explores the technical development and combat deployment of this remarkable vehicle, from its' origins in the Porsche Tiger Tank through its deployment under the designation 'Ferdinand' in the Citadel offensive, to its modification and redesignation as the 'Elefant' and final use in the desperate Battle of Berlin.
Drawing on original archival material from within Germany, private collections, and heretofore unpublished photographs this title is an essential illustrated history to one of the most famous armoured vehicles ever built. 1 vol, 256 pgs

Anderson Thomas THE HISTORY OF THE PANZERWAFFE: Volume 2: 1942-45
The final years of World War II saw the legendary Panzerwaffe face its most difficult challenges, with Allied troops landing at Normandy and storming across the continent and the Russians gaining the upper hand on the Eastern Front. As Germany fought fiercely to hold on to the advantages gained in the early years, they relied heavily on the Panzer IV, the Panzer V Panther, and the StuG III to hold back their advancing opponents.
This second volume on the Panzerwaffe offers a comprehensive guide to the final years of Germany's most famous fighting force, covering the further use of the Panzer IV, the role played by the StuG III assault gun and the battlefield debut of the formidable Panther. Combat reports and rare archive photographs help uncover the final years of the panzers, including defense against the D-Day landings, the Ardennes Offensive, and the last stand in and around Berlin. 1 vol, 304 pgs

Anderson, Thomas TIGER
One of the most feared weapons of World War II, the Tiger tank was a beast of a machine which dominated the battlefields of Europe with its astonishing size, speed and firepower. It continues to fascinate more than 70 years after it was first designed, and a comprehensive, illustrated history such as this is long overdue. Revealing its design and development history, Thomas Anderson draws upon original German archival material to tell the story of the birth of the Tiger.
He then analyzes its success on the battlefield and the many modifications and variants that also came into play. Illustrated throughout with rare photographs and drawings, many of which have never been published in English before.

Anderson, Thomas STURMARTILLERIE: Spearhead of the Infantry
The Sturmartillerie was a key part of Germany's armored arsenal throughout World War II. Its armored assault guns were designed to support the artillery on the battlefield, largely using the purpose-built Sturmgeschutz infantry support gun.
This new and exhaustive study details the development and operational history of this innovative force, as well as describing how its role and the tactics it employed changed from the glory years of Blitzkrieg through to the desperate defense of the last years of the war. It also describes the technical development and evolution of the vehicles employed, and includes combat action reports and excerpts from interviews with veterans. 1 vol, 288 pgs

Anderson, Thomas STURMGESCHUTZ: Panzer, Panzerjager, Waffen-SS and Luftwaffe Units 1943-45
First established in 1940, the Sturmgeschutz assault guns were purpose-built vehicles intended to support the infantry during the phase of attack and breakthrough of enemy positions. During the eastern campaign the Sturmgeschutz proved to be potent tanks destroyers, able to reliably defeat even T-34 and KV heavy tanks. Cheaper and quicker to produce than the German Panzers, it was deployed widely and with great success forming an integral part of armored units, particularly in the final desperate days of the war when tank production could not keep up with the needs of the war effort.
Drawing on original material from German archives and private collections, and replete with over 200 images, this book tells the thrilling story of the Wehrmacht's unsung workhorse in the final years of World War II. 1 vol, 272 pgs

Anderson, Thomas THE HISTORY OF THE PANZERJAGER: Volume 1: Origins and Evolution 1939-42
The German Panzerjager, or Panzerjagertruppe, was one of the most innovative fighting arms of World War II and its story has never properly been told. Many books have focused on an element of the story - the Hetzer, Jagdpanzer, Jagdpanther - but this covers the development and organization of Nazi Germany's anti-tank force from its earliest origins in World War I, through its development in the interwar period, and its baptism of fire in the early days of World War II.
This is the first of two volumes that will trace the story through the glory years of Blitzkrieg and the improvements that were made when Soviet tanks were first encountered, leading to new weapons, tactics, and organization. It is packed with previously unpublished wartime photographs, combat reports, and detailed charts and statistics to give an unparalleled account of this unique arm of the Wehrmacht. 1 vol, 304 pgs

Cowper, Marcus TIGER TANK
The most famous tank of World War II, the Tiger was a monster of a machine that dominated the battlefields of Europe and beyond. Originally conceived in response to the German Army's experience fighting British tanks in western Europe and North Africa, the Tiger cemented its reputation of near invincibility during the savage battles of the Eastern Front.
This is a complete illustrated guide to one of the world's most famous fighting vehicles, exploring its history, strengths, weaknesses, and combat performance as it dueled against the best the Allies had to give. Drawing on a wealth of research, detailed illustrations and contemporary photographs, this book reveals how this remarkable tank became an icon of military history. 1 vol, 140 pgs

8.5x11, 'Armour at War' series, (16) pages of color drawings, lots of b/w photos.
The book begins with a summary of the highly effective 'Panzertaktiks' and tactical organizations that Germany developed prior to WWII. This involved combined all-arms cooperation, as well as components like reconnaissance, combat engineers, artillery and air support. The written introduction also summarizes the important elements of German command and control (C2) and logistics.
The work then proceeds to a dazzling array of black and white photos of vehicles in action. The range of vehicles is extraordinary - including the Sd.Kfz.222, Sd.Kfz.231, Sd.Kfz.232, Sd.Kfz.234, Hetzer, Panzer I, Panzer II, Panzer III, StuG III, Panzer IV, Jagdpanzer IV, Panther, Jagdpanther, Tiger I, and Elefant. This list is not exhaustive but it does indicate the gamut of vehicle types featured in these pages. Each photo is accompanied by a detailed caption providing pertinent information regarding vehicle types, units and locations.
In the center of the book are 16 color plates by the accomplished illustrator Laurent Lecocq. These plates provide sample camouflage schemes and markings in full color. This is a well-written and well-illustrated book that will provide modelers and enthusiasts with much inspiration and information respectively. It's a fine companion to the four previous volumes in the Panzer Vor! series. 1 vol, 72 pgs

DeSisto, Frank V. PANZER VOR! 7: GERMAN ARMOUR AT WAR 1939-45
8.5x11, 'Armour at War' series, 16 pages of color drawings and lots of b/w photos.
The book opens with a precis of the Germany tank industry before and during the war. This summary describes how the nation's arms industry was resurrected in the 1920-30s, and how it sought to provide the materiel and vehicles needed to feed Germany's insatiable war machine. Despite many restrictions and hurdles, German industry did surprisingly well in producing such a wide range of armored fighting vehicles up till the end of the war. These efforts are reflected in a fascinating array of photos showing military vehicles in action. The range of photography is extraordinary - it includes the Panzer I, Panzer II, Panzer Ill, StuG III, Panzer IV, Panther and Tiger I, for example. There are also artillery pieces and a number of half-tracks featured within the covers. Readers will find very useful the highly detailed captions that accompany each picture.

Diamond, Jon BEYOND ROME TO THE ALPS: Images of War Series
Rome was liberated on 5 June 1944 but the Italian campaign had another eleven grueling months to run. The US Fifth and British Eighth Armies drove across the Arno River, capturing Florence on 5 August. Once again The Wehrmacht's 10th and 14th Armies eluded destruction, withdrawing into the Gothic Line in the Northern Apennines. The Eighth Army, advancing along the Adriatic coast and the Fifth Army in the mountains north of Florence penetrated this strong German defensive belt between 25 August and the end of September. Yet the Allied campaign stalled due to a lethal combination of supply and manpower shortages, the early onset of winter and the rugged terrain favoring the German defenders. The Allied April spring offensive saw Eighth Army breakthrough the Argenta Gap into the Po Valley, while Fifth Army captured Bologna. After crossing the Po River the Allies fanned out across Northern Italy, before the Nazi surrender on 3 May 1945. Includes 250 black and white illustrations. 1 vol, 224 pgs

Doyle Valentine Tank Walk Around
The Valentine Infantry Tank III, a private venture design from Vickers-Armstrong, was the third of Great Britain's Infantry Tank designs. Though not the first tank to go into battle against the Axis in World War II, the Valentine has the distinction of having the highest production numbers of any wartime British tank, and arguably the most variations. A total of 8,275 Valentines were produced in no fewer than 11 major variations - from Mark I to Mark XI - along with Duplex Drive and other specialized versions.
Among the key differences between the various Marks were the engines. Early versions of the vehicle were equipped with gasoline engines, while a Diesel engine powered the later Marks. The turret also saw development during the career of the Valentine, with later models receiving a more elongated turret. The Valentine received its baptism of fire with the British 8th Army in Operation Crusader in North Africa in July 1941. From that date until late 1943, the Valentine was Britain's primary Infantry Tank.
Besides fighting under the Union Jack, Valentines saw action under the flags of Canada, the Soviet Union, Australia, and New Zealand. They took part in combat in both the European and Pacific Theaters, and after the war continued to serve several British Commonwealth armies as late as the 1950s. Illustrated with 250 photographs, plus color profiles and detailed line drawings. 1 vol, 88 pgs

Doyle, David GERMAN PANZER I: German Army's WWII Early Light Tank Visual History
Clandestinely developed during the post WWI-era during which Germany was forbidden from developing, producing or owning armored combat vehicles, the Panzer I served as a proof of concept. Manufacturers and engineers became acquainted with the creation of modern fully tracked combat vehicles and soldiers were familiarized with the driving, maintenance, logistics entailed by fielding an armored force.
Once war began, not only did these experiences prove invaluable, the tanks themselves, armed only with twin machine guns, nevertheless proved formidable weapons against ill-prepared enemies.
Spread through 168 hardbound pages, over 200 photos document all variations of this, the cornerstone upon which Germany's famed panzer force was built. As a special bonus, this title includes a 16-page-color walk around section featuring very rare examples of the Panzer IA, B and F. 1 vol, 168 pgs

Doyle, David GERMAN MOTORCYCLES: WWII Visual History
The Germans developed and used the motorcycle as an instrument of offensive warfare, perhaps more than any other nation in WWII. The major tasks of these units were mopping-up for the following troops and employment as an advance guard, surprise raid-like attacks against an opponent's flanks and rear, as well as pursuit of the opponent. A wide variety of machines were deployed for these tasks, both impressed and adapted civilian models, as well as variety of purpose-built military motorcycles.
This distinctive reference combines rare vintage photographs with photos of superbly restored German WWII motorcycles. The first of a multi-part series on the subject, this volume features large, full-color detail photos of the BMW R4; R12; R35; R71; R74 and Zundapp KS750. Only the very finest examples of these motorcycles were sought out for inclusion in this title. 1 vol, 120 pgs

Doyle, David M10/ACHILLES: Visual History
In late 1941, the concept of a separate tank destroyer force began to jell. This force would be armed with specialized weapons. While the army's primary antitank weapons of the late 1930s were 37mm towed anti-tank guns, these were soon deemed to be inadequate against enemy armor. Accordingly, the quest for larger weapons began, as did the desire for a self-propelled antitank gun, or Gun Motor Carriage.
The initial efforts, which involved adapting 3/4-ton, Dodge trucks to mount antitank weapons (the M6, nee WC-55), which were intended as interim and training vehicles. In the same manner, half-tracks were fitted with cannon, yielding the M3 75mm Gun Motor Carriage. But, the quest was on to create a specialized and ideal tank destroyer, utilizing a tank chassis as the basis.
By January of 1942 a prototype was in the works to mount the weapon in an open topped turret on the chassis of the twin GM Diesel-powered M4A2 Sherman Medium tank. After some months of development a design was finalized for a vehicle sharing the suspension, lower hull, and engine with the M4A2 but with an upper hull made up from thinner, but sloping, armored plate. Initially designated T35E1, when the design was standardized it was redesignated M10. In addition to the 6,700-plus Diesel-powered M10 tank destroyers, a further 1,700 M10A1 vehicles were built, these being driven by Ford GAA gasoline engines.
While the 3-inch weapon of the M10 was superior to that found on earlier U.S. tank destroyers, it was inadequate against the ever-increasing weight of German armor. The British addressed this by rearming some of the 1,700 M10s that they received with the superb Ordnance Quick Firing 17-pounder antitank gun. These vehicles were designated by the British as 17-pdr. SP M10 Mark 1c. After the war the name Achilles was given these vehicles. 1 vol, 168 pgs

Illustrated with 700 period photos and described in detail in the 448 hard-bound pages of this volume are the myriad of half-track based mortar, howitzer and gun motor carriages ranging from the ubiquitous but uncelebrated M4 Mortar Carrier to the obscure twin-40mm Bofors-armed T68 to the acclaimed M16 antiaircraft vehicle, which armed with four .50 caliber machine guns remained in the US arsenal until the late 1950s.
Drawing heavily on obscure manufacturer documents and long-forgotten government records, this volume, when combined with Part 1, published in 2015, is the only complete study of these vehicles. 1 vol, 456 pgs

Doyle, David M2/M3 BRADLEY: Images of War Series
Includes 270 color photographs, the bulk previously unpublished, of the M2 Bradley Infantry Fighting Vehicle. The Bradley Fighting Vehicle, made famous through extensive media coverage of the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, is given an in-depth examination. Drawing on the lessons learned in Vietnam, the Bradley was built to provide a highly mobile platform from which infantry could be inserted into the battlefield, and from which the infantry could operate. Its use soon expanded to that of a scout vehicle with anti-tank capability. Despite initial criticism from Congress, the Bradley proved itself very capable on the battlefield, destroying more Iraqi armored vehicles than did the famed Abrams tanks. Explores the many variations of the Bradley, including the heavily armed M270 Multiple Launch Rocket System. 1 vol, 240 pgs

Doyle, David M12 GUN MOTOR CARRIAGE: Images of War Series
Although only 100 examples were produced, the 155mm Gun Motor Carriage M12 served with distinction as an infantry-support weapon and in particular as a bunker-buster during the US assault on the Siegfried Line in the winter of 1944-45.
The ability to rapidly ready heavy artillery for firing lead to the development of the M12 155mm gun in 1941, based on the M3 Medium Tank chassis. The trial vehicle, built by Rock Island Arsenal, was designated T6. To accommodate the large, rear mounted weapon - a French-made M1917 155mm gun, the engine was relocated forward to a position just behind the driving compartment. A hydraulically operated spade mounted at the rear of the vehicle was lowered during firing to anchor the vehicle against the recoil. When retracted into the traveling position it provided a seat for two of the six crewmen.
The production run was between September 1942 and March 1943, with a total of 100 units built. Though a few were used by training units, most were placed in storage until February 1944, when the first of 74 of them were shipped to Baldwin Locomotive Works to be improved based on further tests and usage in training. This work continued until May 1944.
Three slightly different WWI surplus weapons were mounted depending upon availability, the M1917, the M1917A1 and the M1918M1. The M1917 was French built, the M1918 was US built, and the M1917A1 had the French gun tube, and the US breech.
The M12 would earn the nickname 'Door Knocker' for its pounding of the German Siegfried Line. 1 vol, 152 pgs

Doyle, David LVT(4) Amtrac In Action
The small, amphibious landing craft known as the Landing Vehicle, Tracked, or Amtrac evolved from a civilian rescue vehicle to a ship-to-shore cargo transport, to finally an amphibious troop transport and fire support craft. Donald Roebling's swamp rescue vehicle made the pages of Life Magazine in 1937 and caught the eye of the US military, in particular the Marine Corps brass.
A contract for 200 vehicles was issued in February 1940, and so began the story of constant development and modification of the amphibious transport. The vehicle's versatility increased demand to the point that manufacture was eventually shared out among FMC, Borg-Warner, Graham-Paige and the St. Louis Car Company.
This volume covers in detail the development, production, and combat career of the LVT(4) which saw extensive action in the Pacific and Rhine Crossing. Illustrated with over 225 vintage photographs plus color profiles and over a dozen color renderings and detailed line drawings. 1 vol, 80 pgs

The M151 was intended to be a lightweight, high-mobility replacement for the M38A1, itself a successor to the famed World War II jeep. Dubbed the Military Utility Tactical Truck or 'MUTT' by the military - GIs almost universally referred to the vehicle as a 'jeep.' The series' service life spanned more than 40 years and four manufacturers, and the vehicles saw service everywhere the US GI was deployed. This volume chronicles the development and field use of the M151 series in Europe, the Middle East and, of course, there is extensive coverage of the vehicles' service in Vietnam. Doyle, David M1 ABRAMS IN ACTION
The Abrams family of tanks has been America's premier main battle tank for over 30 years, and remains arguably one of the most formidable tanks in the world. The first tank to boast a power plant with a 1,500-h.p. gas turbine, the M1 also features air conditioning - primarily for its advanced electronics, but also, by default, for its crews.
Conceived during the height of the Cold War, the Abrams has never been called upon to combat a global superpower, but nevertheless has seen extensive combat - particularly in Iraq and Afghanistan. This volume focuses on those combat experiences, in particular the victories and losses of the Abrams and crews on the front lines. Doyle, David M2/M3 BRADLEY IN ACTION
Named for US General Omar Bradley, the armored M2/M3 Bradley Fighting Vehicle was designed to transport infantry or scouts and was possessed of sufficient firepower to suppress enemy troops and armored vehicles.
Introduced into US military service in 1981 the vehicle was built around the formidable Bushmaster 25mm chain gun mounted in the vehicle's two-man turret. The vehicle's three-man crew (commander, gunner, driver) was augmented by the ability to carry an infantry team of seven soldiers in the rear compartment protected by aluminum-alloy armored skin. Powered by a Cummins Diesel V-8 engine, the Bradley had tremendous automotive performance as well. The M2 Bradley - the original version of the vehicle - was the basis for the M3, also known as a Bradley, a scout vehicle designed for the Cavalry that has the same three-man crew. 1 vol, 80 pgs

Doyle, David U.S. HALF-TRACK VEHICLES: In Action
US manufacturers produced more than 40,000 halftracks from 1933 until 1944. These mostly-armored vehicles moved artillery and infantry on rough terrain, snow, and sand during World War II and Korea. Based on an adaptation of the White Scout Car, the US half-track vehicles of WWII combined the cross-country ability of a fully-tracked vehicle with the road performance of a medium truck. Variations of these vehicles included prime movers, armored personnel carriers, mortar carriers and a wide range of heavily armed variants.
Vehicles produced by Autocar, Diamond T, and White were used by US forces, while similar International Harvester-built vehicles were supplied to our Allies through Lend-Lease. Both the Army and Marines took them into battle. They left their mark in Africa, Europe, Pacific islands and Korea.
When the US entered Vietnam, French halftracks were already in country. Before retirement, the Israeli Army listed about 600 halftracks in March 2008. Argentina donated its final 24 M9s to Bolivia in 2006. Illustrated with more than 200 photos, two color profiles, and 12 line drawings. 1 vol, 80 pgs

Doyle, David PANTHER IN ACTION
Sometimes known as the Panzerkampfwagen V, the Panther was introduced in 1943 as Germany's new medium tank, intended to replace both the Panzer III and Panzer IV, both of which proved outclassed by the Soviet T-34 and KV-1. The tank had excellent firepower and protection for its day, but early Panthers especially were plagued with mechanical issues, many of which were the result of the vehicles being rushed into production and into the field where they were manned by troops who lacked adequate training on the tanks - all in a feverish effort to stem the Soviet counteroffensive in 1943.
Originally designed as a 30-ton vehicle, with an engine and transmission sized accordingly, as typical of German tank designs, the Panther's weight soon began to climb, ultimately soaring to over 45 tons, which astoundingly is nearly the original design weight of the massive Tiger tank. Doyle, David M-60 MAIN BATTLE TANK: In Action
The M60 Main Battle Tank was conceived as the successor to the M48 Patton with the hope that it would prove a better adversary to the Soviet T-54A. Introduced in 1959, the 105mm-armed M60, and its variants, the M60A1 and M60A3, remained in production into 1987, forming the backbone of the US armored force until it was supplanted by the M1 Abrams. In addition to the conventional cannon-armed versions of the M60, the M60A2 variant, sometimes dubbed 'the starship,' featured new departures in tank armament. The M60A2 was armed with a 152mm projector, which could fire a conventional round with a fully combustible casing, or the MGM-51 Shillelagh anti-tank missile.
Completing the M60 family were the M728 armored engineer vehicle, and the still-in-service M60 Armored Vehicle-Launched Bridge. Packed with 155 vintage color photos, 69 historic black-and-white images, by numerous fine line drawings, and a detailed data table, this 80-page volume traces the history of America's iconic Cold War tank. 1 vol, 80 pgs

Doyle, David 155mm LONG TOM GUN: In Action
The 'Long Tom' or more properly, the '155mm gun M1A1 with M1A1 carriage and M5 limber', and the related 8-inch howitzer M1 formed the backbone of the US Army's heavy field artillery during World War II and Korea. These towed artillery weapons initially used the Mack NO 7.5-ton 6x6 as a prime mover, which was augmented by the M4 high-speed tractor during the later stages of WWII.
With ranges of just over 14 miles for the gun, and 10.5 miles for the howitzer, the duo served for many more years -- with an associated change in the prime mover, to the M125 10-ton 6x6. This 80-page book documents the development and deployment of these iconic weapons, as well as their prime movers and caissons through 227 archival photos. 1 vol, 80 pgs

Doyle, David TIGER 1 IN ACTION
The Tiger is arguably the most feared tank of WWII. Billed as invincible by Nazi propaganda, the massive, heavily armed and armored vehicle's mystique has continued to grow in the intervening years. Often forgotten were the 56-ton behemoth's weaknesses, among which were a feeble power-train and suspension, an unquenchable thirst for precious fuel, and perhaps most crucial, the huge drain it imposed on Germany's manufacturing and engineering resources.
Only 1,346 Tiger Is were produced; so precious a resource was the Tiger that even severely damaged vehicles were remanufactured and returned to the front, some multiple times -- leading to a bewildering array of features over the tank's many variants. Today, only a half-dozen Tigers survive, leaving period photographs as a visual record of their victories and ultimate defeat.

Doyle, David WWII US SHERMAN TANK IN ACTION
The iconic American tank of World War II, the M4 Sherman was known for its simple, reliable, and flexible design. Ten different companies contributed to the total output of 50,000 units produced in a myriad of variations. Even after it went into serial production in 1942 the Sherman was subject to almost constant change and modification, based on lessons learned and needs perceived on the battlefield. The full story of the Sherman's exploits would fill several volumes, so this book focuses on the variants and sub-variants of the Shermans used by U.S. forces during WWII. The Shermans that rolled off the assembly lines in 1945 bore little resemblance to the M4s produced in 1942, and this volume chronicles each major model of the Sherman everywhere the American soldier fought. Augmenting the nearly 200 period photos, many of them in rare original color, are a host of exquisitely rendered line drawings illustrating the subtle variations in hull, turret, and weapons used on these famed armored fighting vehicles. Includes color profiles; 1 vol, 80 pgs

Doyle, David FT-17 / M1917 WWI TANKS: Walk Around
Softcover version.
Introduced in 1917, the Renault FT-17 and its American-built copy, the M1917, revolutionized tank design. The vehicle's rotating turret, rear-engine, driver-forward design are characteristics of the most advanced tanks even today.
This volume presents a careful study of the details and variations of this innovative vehicle, inside and out. Two-hundred thirty-seven photographs reveal the intimacies of no fewer than 14 of the finest surviving examples of these machines, preserved on three different continents. Examples feature a variety of paint schemes and camouflage patterns, the rounded and flat-plate castings for the rear of the vehicle and the tail skid and turret variations between the Renault FT-17 and US-made M1917. The driver's compartment in the interior of the tank is revealed, and close ups record the configuration of the engine. Doyle, David M18 HELLCAT TANK DESTROYER Walk Around
Though relatively lightly armored, Buick's M18 Hellcat could top 55 mph, making it the fastest armored fighting vehicle fielded during World War II. The Tank Destroyer men who crewed these vehicles used this speed and the Hellcat's 76mm high-velocity cannon to destroy German tanks; firing at the vulnerable areas of the enemy, and then racing away before coming under fire themselves.
This volume examines the three principal variants of the Hellcat - the preproduction T70, early M18, and late M18, using ample visual reference to document these vehicles and their differences inside and out. Engine and drive train, driver's compartment, weapons and sighting systems, and stowage (interior and exterior) are all carefully presented. Doyle, David M8 / M20 ARMORED CARS: Walk Around
The M8 'Greyhound' armored car was the only armored car used in substantial numbers by US forces during World War II. The M20, an offshoot of the M8 design, also played a number of active roles, in particular serving as a command car for high-ranking officers in forward areas. Both vehicles, manufactured by the Ford Motor Company, went on, after World War II, serving US and various Allied forces around the world. Some countries were still using the vehicles at the turn of the 21st century.
The M8 featured an open-top turret in which was mounted an M6 37mm cannon and coaxial Browning .30-caliber machine gun. The M20 replaced the turret with an open-topped parapet with a ring-mounted .50-caliber machine gun. When serving as a command car, the M20 packed additional radios and a folding map board.
This lavishly illustrated volume is packed with contemporary and historic images that document not only the vehicles' configurations as produced, but also their appearance and activity in the field - the most unique collection of detailed photos of the Greyhound currently available. Doyle, David Diamond T 4-Ton Truck Walk Around
As it became increasingly apparent that the United States could not avoid getting involved in World War II, the US Army stepped up its efforts at modernization and industrial mobilization. Toward this end, the Quartermaster Corps ordered a series of 4-ton 6x6 trucks from Chicago-based Diamond T Motor Car Company. The chassis of the artillery prime mover was adapted for use as a dump truck, a long-wheelbase truck to transport bridging equipment, and what would become the US Army's standard medium wrecker during WWII.
The design of the Diamond T was so successful that it is widely recognized as the forerunner of the Army's post-WWII M-series trucks, which were utilized for 50 years. For this book, the finest preserved examples of the classic Diamond T were sought out and extensively photographed, resulting in a volume packed with 227 color photographs augmented by five period black-and-white photos. 1 vol, 80 pgs

Doyle, David FERDINAND/ELEFANT DETAIL IN ACTION
In an effort to turn the proverbial lemon, in the form of an unsuccessful Tiger design, into lemonade, Porsche engineers at the behest of the German army, converted the failed chassis into one of the largest and most potent tank destroyer designs of World War II.
Initially fielded as the Ferdinand, the vehicles were further modified, and ultimately given a new - and apt - name: 'Elefant.' This new volume explores not only the combat history of both the Ferdinand and Elefant, but also chronicles the development of the ill-fated Porsche Tiger design through 88 period black-and-white photos. Further enhancing its utility to the enthusiast, 110 full-color photos of the only surviving examples of each type illustrate the nuances of the construction and subsequent wartime modification of these giant tank killers. Doyle, David M3 GUN MOTOR CARRIAGE Detail In Action
In the early days of World War II, the US Army developed many specialized vehicles based on the standard US halftrack chassis. One such vehicle, the M3 Gun Motor Carriage, was engineered to be a self-propelled antitank gun, melding the venerable 75mm 1897A4 cannon - the famed 'French 75' - with the then-modern halftrack chassis built by Autocar. The ever-increasing armor protection of German tanks combined with advances in fully-tracked tank destroyers led the Army to eschew the vehicle after limited use in Europe, notably in Sicily.
The US Marines, however, used the vehicle in several campaigns in the Pacific, where the Marines brought the canon to bear on comparatively thin Japanese armor as well as bunkers. Chronicles the development and combat use of the M3 Gun Motor Carriage through vintage photos, as well as thoroughly documenting the only fully restored example in existence through an additional full-color images. Doyle, David GAMA GOAT DETAIL IN ACTION
Conceived at a time when the US Army was seeking to revolutionize its tactical vehicle fleet, the Gama Goat showed considerable promise. Deriving its name from its designer, Roger Gamaunt, the Gama Goat was initially a project of aerospace giant Chance-Vought.
The all-wheel drive vehicle with steerable axles at each end and a flexible connection between the halves of its two-part body provide agile in testing. The flexibility gave the vehicle sure footing, and the body was designed to be amphibious. Sadly, the production M561 Gama Goats, assembled by Consolidated Diesel Electric, failed to live up to the promise of the test vehicles, leading to a Congressional investigation into both the vehicle performance and cost overruns.
Expensive modifications and retrofitting delayed the fielding of the vehicle. Troops using these engineering marvels either loved it, or hated it, with seemingly no middle ground. Ultimately, the vehicle saw use with US forces stateside, as well as in Germany and Korea, and the M561 was used during the invasion of Grenada.
This 80-page volume chronicles the design, development, testing and field use of this iconic vehicle through 143 vintage color and black-and-white photos, as well as showcasing the nuances of the remarkable design via 74 color photos of immaculately preserved examples. 1 vol, 80 pgs

Doyle, David WALK AROUND: GMC CCKW 2 1/2-ton Truck
As war spread in Asia and war clouds gathered over Europe in the late 1930s, the US Army Quartermaster Corps set out to acquire a tough, new 2-1/2 ton tactical truck that would be up to the task of hauling modern artillery as well as troops and supplies. In the end General Motors filled that need with its all-wheel drive CCKW truck. The first examples rolled off GMC's Pontiac, Michigan, assembly line in February 1941. By September 1942, the Chevrolet plant in St. Louis, Missouri, also started manufacturing the CCKW. This volume is packed with detailed photographs and highlights modifications through the years of its service - a wooden truck bed to save on precious steel, an open cab to allow for more cargo room in ship holds, 2 designs for axles, negative electrical system and a winch that was installed on a third of the trucks. Covers long- and short-wheelbase versions, plus cargo dump body types. Don't miss this close-up look at the truck that carried US men and materiel to victory on 3 continents in WWII! Doyle, David THE COMPLETE DUKW
Hurriedly developed in 1942 under the auspices of the US National Defense Research Committee, the DUKW became arguably the most successful amphibious vehicle ever produced. Combining a hull form engineered by noted yacht designers Sparkman & Stephens with their own 2.5 ton 6x6 truck design, General Motors produced 21,147 these vehicles during World War II.
This comprehensive volume relies on never-before tapped primary source documents from the archives of General Motors, the National Defense Research Committee, marine architects Sparkman & Stephens, the US Army, and others to tell - for the first the first time accurately - the story of the DUKW and the men whose lives it touched.
Includes archival photos detailing the detailing the origin, design, numerous changes throughout production as well as wartime use of the DUKW. Covered are campaigns in Sicily, Mainland Europe, India and the far-flung islands of the Pacific, as well as its subsequent use in Korea, along with authorized field modifications as well as the follow-on Flying DUKW, Superduck, and Drake, and DUKW use in the 21st century. Illustrated with more than 750 photographs and detailed line drawings. 1 vol, 304 pgs

Doyle, Dvid WALK AROUND: M3 MEDIUM TANK(Lee & Grant)
The M3 Medium Tank was designed as an interim answer to European battlefield conditions at the start of World War II. The tank was required to have heavier armor and a gun twice the size of the M2A1. Additionally, plans needed to be ready in 60 days. The solution was the M3's unconventional design, which features a 75mm main gun mounted in a sponson on the right, front of the hull. The British dubbed their version 'General Grant' and named the US Army version the 'General Lee.' This book takes a detailed look at the M3 Medium Tank with more than 200 photographs, color profiles and detailed line drawings. 1 vol, 80 pgs

Finazzer, Enrico LIGHT TRUCKS OF THE ITALIAN ARMY IN WWII
This book provides a detailed account of specialized WWII light gun trucks produced by Italian industry between mid-1942 and mid-1943. The Regio Esercito requested an Automezzo Speciale (Special truck), or, more currently, camionette, industry responded with the AS42 and the AS43, (AS standing for Autocarro Speciale). Contains 100+ b/w photos, scale Plans, and color profiles.
These vehicles were meant to be used in desert warfare, issued to the unit called the Raggruppamento Sahariano, (Saharan Group). The trucks were to be used in action against the British Long Range Desert Group, or, for special operations behind enemy lines with Italian special forces designated the X Reggimento Arditi.
The vehicles came too late and in too small a number to make a real impact in that theater. After the fall of Africa, they were diverted to several different units as anti-paratrooper companies or anti-bridgehead mobile battalions in Sicily and in the Italian mainland.
After the Italian Armistice, they served with German troops and with the armed forces of the Repubblica Sociale Italiana. 1 vol, 64 pgs

Fletcher, David BRITISH BATTLE TANKS: British-Made Tanks of World War II
Second of a multi-volume history of British tanks.
Plagued by unreliable vehicles and poorly thought-out doctrine, the early years of World War II were years of struggle for Britain's tank corps. Relying on tanks built in the late 1930s, and those designed and built with limited resources in the opening years of the war, they battled valiantly against an opponent well versed in the arts of armored warfare.
This book covers the development and use of the Matilda, Crusader, and Valentine tanks that pushed back the Axis in North Africa, the much-improved Churchill that fought with distinction from North Africa to Normandy, and the excellent Cromwell tank of 1944-45. It also looks at Britain's super-heavy tank projects, the TOG1 and TOG2, and the Tortoise heavy assault tank, designed to smash through the toughest of battlefield conditions, but never put into production. 1 vol, 280 pgs

Fletcher, David and Zaolga, Steven BRITISH BATTLE TANKS: American-Made World War II Tanks
The idea of British soldiers using American tanks was not viewed with a great deal of enthusiasm by the British Army. They perceived American tanks as being crudely made, mechanically unsophisticated, and impossible to fight in. However, once British crews got used to them and learned to cope with some of their difficulties, such as limited fuel capacity and unfamiliar fighting techniques, they started to see them in a far more positive light, in particular their innate reliability and simplicity of maintenance.
This book, the last in a three-part series, concentrates on World War II and studies American tanks in British service, some of which were modified in ways peculiar to the British. It shows how the number of these tanks increased to the point that they virtually dominated, as well describing some types, such as the T14 and M26 Pershing, which were supplied but never used in British service. 1 vol, 256 pgs

Fortin, Ludovic BRITISH TANKS IN NORMANDY
A detailed account of the Normandy campaign fought by the British Armored Divisions and independent Armored Brigades, from the D-Day landing to Operation Goodwood. The Author - a dedicated specialist of British armor - has divided his work into three parts: the units involved, the AFVs fielded in Normandy, and the doctrine of use of the High Command with its actual effect on the battlefield.
Equipped in some cases with obsolescent vehicles, their personnel often under-motivated but sometimes inventive, the British tank formations did not always answer to the hopes of the Allied military planners. This book gives a fresh view on the whole question. 1 vol, 160 pgs

Frohlich, Michael KAMPFPANZER MAUS: The Porsche Type 205 Super-Heavy Tank
In 1944, the Maus giant battle tank, weighing almost 190 tons, was supposed to help turn the Wehrmacht's fortunes of war on the Eastern Front. Just two prototypes of this monster were delivered, for its undeniable advantages-tremendous firepower and virtually impenetrable armor-were outweighed by the disadvantages of its slowness, excessive use of materials in construction, and fuel consumption so high that it was, by that time, far beyond the Germans' ability to supply. The book includes the complete operating instructions for the tank's crew!

Gander, Terry THE GERMAN 88 - The Most Famous Gun of the Second World War
The German 88mm guns became the most famous and feared artillery pieces of the Second World War. They appeared in a whole series of forms ranging from anti-aircraft to anti-tank and tank guns, including several self-propelled platforms. Although primarily anti-aircraft guns they gained an awesome reputation as anti-tank weapons, a reputation that remains to this day.
The book details the 88 from its first manifestations during the Great War to its clandestine development in Sweden, its production in Germany, its first 'multi-role' initiation during the Spanish Civil War and its part in the campaigns of 1939-40. As well as a detailed technical description of the gun and its development, his book features vivid accounts of the 88 in action in many of the main theaters of the Second World War, in North Africa, Italy, France and Germany, and on the Eastern Front. 1 vol, 176 pgs

Green, Michael AMERICAN TANKS & AFVs OF WORLD WAR II
Stuart, Sherman, Lee, and Grant tanks dominated the US Army and Marine Corps armored warfare effort versus Nazi Germany and Tojo's Japan. This book details the full range of these vehicles, giving technical specifications and development features as well as describing how they were manned and fought in battle.
American industrial might was on full display during WWII. The US built 88,140 tanks between 1939 and 1945, or about twice that of Germany and Great Britain combined during the same period. These tanks also saw service with many allied armies.
In addition to the 18,620 tank-based variants, such as armored engineering vehicles, self-propelled artillery, armored recovery vehicles, and tank destroyers, American factories went on to design and build thousands of wheeled armored cars for reconnaissance purposes and armored half-tracks to transport the infantry into battle behind the tanks. Like the tanks, American armored half-tracks were modified to serve a wide variety of jobs including self-propelled artillery, tank destroyers and antiaircraft vehicles. So useful were these vehicles that they would remain in service with foreign armies for decades after World War II.
To complement its inventory of tanks and armored fighting vehicles the American military industrial complex also designed and built over 18,000 amphibian tractors. Appearing in both unarmored and armored variants they went into combat with a wide variety of armaments. Referred to as the Landing Vehicle Tracked (LVT) they would serve not only with the US Marine Corps who often called them Amtracs but the US Army who referred to them as the Water Buffalo. They would allow the American military to take the fight to the far flung Japanese Empire across vast reaches of the Pacific Area of Operations. 1 vol, 0 pgs

Green, Michael AXIS TANKS OF THE SECOND WORLD WAR: Images of War series
The German Army used tanks to devastating effect in their Blitzkrieg campaigns during the early years of the Second World War and in the intense defensive battles leading up to final defeat in 1945. Includes 250 color and black and white illustrations. It may be a surprise to many that the Japanese Army had more tanks than Nazi Germany in 1938; these included the Type 95 light tank and the Type 89 and 97 medium tanks. Co-belligerents in the Axis Alliance that built their own tanks included Italy, Romania and Hungary. The latter was responsible for the Toldi and Turan light tank series.
As can be seen from the descriptions and images in this classic Images of War series work, the Axis powers had drawn on British and, in some cases, French design for their tanks in the period leading up to the Second World War: the Carden-Loyd tankette suspension was used in the Panzer 1 series and the light Italian and Japanese tanks. German engineering talent resulted in the original and ingenious designs of the Panzer II, III and IV series and, later in the War, the Panther Medium and Tiger heavy tanks. 1 vol, 216 pgs

Green, Michael UNITES STATES ARMY ARMORED DIVISIONS OF THE SECOND WORLD WAR: Images of War Series
Includes 250 color & black and white images.
The routing of the British and French Armies in May and June 1940 by the Wehrmacht's armored divisions caused a major rethink by the US Army's senior leadership. The result was the formation of the two armored divisions in July 1940; the first named 'Old Ironside' and second designated 'Hell on Wheels'.
In 1941, a further three armored divisions were created; the third (Spearhead), the fourth (remained unnamed) and the fifth called 'Victory'. The following year seven more were created, the sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth, tenth, eleventh and twelfth. The final two armored divisions formed in 1943 numbered the sixteenth and twentieth. All but one of these powerful formations went on to see service in the European Theater of Operation (ETO); the exception being the 1st Armored Division that served in North Africa, Sicily and Italy. 1 vol, 224 pgs

Green, Mike PANTHER - Germany's Quest for Combat Dominance
In most people's opinion, the German Panther tank was the most elegant tank design of World War II. It embodied a balance of firepower, armor protection, and mobility unmatched by any other tank of the period. Yet, it was not the war-winner it might have been.
Author Mike Green examines the disparity between the potential of the Panther design and the actuality of the fielded Panther tank in this new book. Though many viewed the Panther as an engineering masterpiece and a technological breakthrough, it failed to meet expectations on the battlefield, and thus proved a major setback to Hitler's dreams of world domination. Green explores the evolution, and devolution, of the Panther, providing keen insight and new reasons for its ultimate failure. 1 vol, 288 pgs

Hadacek, Jerome THE ART OF THE JEEP: From Propaganda to Advertising
Approximately 350 illustrations. The Jeep, despite its small engine and public underestimation, represents the most well known example of an American manufacturer's success at making the transition from war propaganda to mainstream popular advertising.
Made famous by the appearance of a few articles, images of the Jeep could be found everywhere: on stationary, match boxes, playing cards, and appeared to invade America and then the world. The firm Willys further strengthened the phenomenon by inundating the press with large format color advertisements in order to compete with Bantam, the original maker of the engine. While the group was in reality too small to tackle both the demand of this project and the needs of their major client Ford, Willys was nevertheless able to dominate the publicity about the all terrain vehicle by devoting excellent illustrators to the job. Given the firm's success, the image of the Jeep was thus highly exploited and used in other campaigns advertising the promotion of other products, personnel recruitment, as well as a variety of other items.
Organized by product, Hadacek's work gathers together a superb collection of illustrations and material, retracing an entire period focused on a vehicle that initially went unnoticed but quickly became a major symbol of post-war ingenuity.
Jerome Hadacek is modeler specializing in 1/48 and 1/10 scale recreations. He is particularly fond of working on tanks and the jeep. He has published numerous articles in Steel Masters, Tank Zone and 4x4 Story, on various themes regarding military vehicles based off of reports from military museums throughout the world, technical documentation, and various related events. 1 vol, 160 pgs

Hughes, Chris M41 WALKER BULLDOG Walk Around
The standard US light tank during the early years of the Cold War, the M41 Bulldog was developed as a more powerful successor to the M24 Chaffee. Named for General Walton Walker who died in a Jeep accident in Korea, the Walker Bulldog was maneuverable and well armed. It was, however, rushed to the battlefield to counter North Korea's Soviet built T-34s before all its own kinks had been worked out.
Accordingly a number of Bulldog variants were developed over the years in an effort to overcome initial deficiencies. In 1953 a hydraulic turret traverse replaced the initial electrical traverse and in 1956, fuel injection was introduced. The US Army began phasing out the Bulldog at the end of the 1960s, but the rugged vehicle has served more than 20 other countries and continues to operate in several armies around the world to this day.
The detailed photographs that pack this volume offer readers a detailed look at all the facets of the M41, inside and out. In addition to comprehensive images of the outside of the Bulldog, five pages cover the engine compartment alone, while images of the interior of vehicle and turret fill 25 pages. Illustrated with 250 photographs plus color profiles and numerous detailed line drawings. 1 vol, 80 pgs

Hughes, Chris M551 SHERIDAN TANK Walk Around
First deployed in combat in Vietnam, the M551 Sheridan is the first US tank to be fully amphibious and also airborne capable. Though maintenance problems and issues with the gun-launcher system caused the M551 to be withdrawn from most active Army units in the late 1970s, it continued to serve the 82nd Airborne Division as the only armored vehicle in the Army's inventory that could be air dropped. With the 82nd, the Sheridan took part in the US invasion of Panama in 1989 and in the war against Iraq in 1990-1991.
The last M551s were withdrawn from US service in 2003. Based on photographic studies of various M551s, volume offers readers the first-ever up close look at the Sheridan. Coverage of the basic M551 begins with the suspension and works its way around the exterior of the tank, into the engine compartment and finishes with a detailed look at the vehicle's interior. Photos of the sub-variants of the M551 Sheridan, such as the 'Product Improvement Program,' A1, and VISMODs round out this profile of the versatile historic tank. Illustrated by more than 240 photographs plus eight detailed line drawings. 1 vol, 80 pgs

Johnson, Robert 2cm FLAK: 2cm FLAKVIERLING

The 2cm Flak 30, 2cm Flak 38 and the 2cm Flakvierling 38 gun were deployed by the Luftwaffe, Panzerwaffe, Heeresflak units, the Kriegsmarine, and multiple related branches of the Wehrmacht.
A special bonus is the extensive coverage of the weapons system described in detail, utilizing the original 1937 L.Dv. 440/02 and the 1942 D.v.T. 1901/2 Dienstvorschrift (manuals). Includes 146 color and B&W photos. 1 vol, 152 pgs

Kinnear, James and Sewell, Stephen SOVIET T-10 HEAVY TANK AND VARIANTS
When it was introduced into service in 1953, the T-10 represented a return to the classic Soviet heavy tank. Although considered a major threat to NATO tank forces, it also represented the end of an era. All gun-heavy tanks like the T-10 would eventually be made effectively redundant by later models like the T-62, which had powerful next-generation armament and new ammunition types. The T-10 was gradually withdrawn from service in the 1970s, though the last tanks would only leave Russian service, by decree of the President of the Russian Federation, in 1997. As such the T-10 outlived the Soviet state that had created it.
Never exported outside of the Soviet Union and rarely used in combat, the T-10 has remained a mysterious tank, with many of its variants unknown in the West until very recently. This study, written from original Russian and Ukrainian primary source documents that have only recently been made available, uncovers the history of this enigmatic tank using 130 stunning contemporary and modern photographs of the T-10 as well as full color side-view artwork. 1 vol, 232 pgs

Klomen, Charles K Pz.Lpfw.38(t) Variations In Action
The tank that has gone down in history as the Pz.Kpfw.38(t) was originally christened the LT vz. 38 or 'Light Tank model 38' by its Czechoslovak manufacturers before World War II. Intended for the Czech armed forces, its early models were also supplied to Sweden, Iran, Peru, and Switzerland, and saw action during the 1941 conflict between Peru and Ecuador.
But like the Czech lands themselves, the tank and its industrial producers were seized by Nazi Germany when Hitler's forces took over the Central European country on the eve of World War II. Pressed into German service, the Pz.Kpfw.38(t), as the vehicle was renamed, became one of the most widely used Czech fighting vehicles.
The Pz.Kpfw.38(t) saw extensive action during Germany's invasions of Poland in 1939 and France in 1940. The tank accounted for a significant part of the armored units that poured across the Soviet frontier on 22 June 1941. The excellent chassis was later used as a basis for tank hunters, self-propelled artillery, and antiaircraft vehicles, and in the last year of the war for a Jagdpanzer 38 'Hetzer.' Illustrated with more than 186 photographs, detailed line drawings and color profiles. 1 vol, 0 pgs

Lodieu, Didier PANTHERS IN NORMANDY: 116 Panzer Division July - August 1944
Oversized at 9x12.5 inches, the panther battalion of the 116 Panzer Division, during the Battle of Normandy. During the night of 19-20 July 1944, the I/Pz.Rgt. 24's 76 Panthers set off in a one kilometer column, four yards between each tank. There would now be new battles for the veteran Panzerschutzen; for the recruits, this would be their baptism of fire.
This book by Didier Lodieu - one of France's foremost specialists on the fighting in Normandy - traces the odyssey of the 1st Battalion of Panthers of the 24th Regiment of the 116th Panzer Division, just back from the East. From the first engagements in July to the crossing of the Seine at the end of August, this offers a day by day account of the terrible fighting during the 'hedgerow' war. 1 vol, 128 pgs

Malmassari, Paul ARMOURED TRAINS: An Illustrated Encyclopedia 1825-2016
Oversized at 9.5x11.25 inches, this completely revised and expanded edition since its French publication covers armored trains 1825-2016.
Military forces around the world were quick to see the advantages of railways in warfare, whether for the rapid deployment of men or the movement of heavy equipment like artillery. From this realization, it was a short step to making the train a potent weapon in its own right -- a mobile fort or a battleship on rails. Armed and armored, they became the first practical self-propelled war machines. As demonstrated in the American Civil War, these trains were able to make a significant contribution to battlefield success. Thereafter, almost every belligerent nation with a railway system made some use of armored rolling stock, ranging from low-intensity colonial policing to the massive employment of armored trains during the Russian Civil War. Although they were somewhat eclipsed as front-line weapons by the development of the tank and other armored fighting vehicles, armored trains retained a role as late as the civil wars in the former republic of Yugoslavia.
Covers the range of fighting equipment that rode the rails country by country. Includes a vast array of photographs and the author's meticulous drawings. 1 vol, 528 pgs

Mesko, Jim WALK AROUND: M5 Stuart
The light M5 Stuart tank was a much-upgraded version of the M3 Stuart. Named for Confederate General J.E.B. Stuart, the Stuarts filled the need for a light tank and, in addition to the US, they were supplied to Allied military forces. The leap from the M3 to the M5 Stuart took place in 1941, when the US Ordnance Department accepted a proposal by Cadillac to install double Cadillac V8 engines in the tank and, after remodeling the hull to accommodate the new motors, a new tank, the M5, was born. Reconnaissance units in the front lines of US forces were always accompanied by the agile M5s. With a top speed of 45 miles per hour, armor protection, and firepower, the M5A1 provided powerful support. Though not a match for heavy German armor, the Stuart was more than adequate for dealing with infantry. In addition to the US military, M5s were supplied to Britain, the Soviet Union, and France. After WWII, the Stuart saw action in such far-flung places as China, India, and Indochina. Illustrated with more than 190 photographs, plus color profiles and detailed line drawings; 80 pages. 1 vol, 80 pgs

Ogorkiewicz, Richard TANKS
A detailed, analytical, and comprehensive account of the worldwide evolution of tanks, from their inception a century ago to the present day. With new ideas stemming from the latest academic research, this study presents a reappraisal of the development of tanks and their evolution during World War I and how the surge in technological development during World War II and the subsequent Cold War drove tank developments in Europe and America, transforming tanks into fast, resilient and powerful fighting machines.
From the primitive, bizarre-looking Mark V to the Matilda and from the menacing King Tiger to the superlative M1 Abrams, Professor Ogorkiewicz shows how tanks gradually acquired the enhanced capabilities that enabled them to become what they are today: the core of combined-arms, mechanized warfare. 1 vol, 288 pgs

Oliver, Dennis STUG: Assault Gun Units In The East - Bagration To Berlin Vol. 2
The second and final part of STUG: Assault Gun Units in the East. Volume 1 covered the independent StuG Battalions and the Panzerjaeger companies attached to Infantry divisions equipped with the StuG III and IV. In this book, Vol. 2 examines the units of the Waffen SS, the Luftwaffe and the Panzer divisions - some of which contained mixed battalions of tanks and assault guns. We have also had the assistance of Professor Yuri Shepelev who has been able to access the photo resources of the St Petersburg State Archive.
This book is based on our usual format of 13 full color pages featuring over 30 different vehicles, highlighting the colors and field modifications that make these late-war assault guns so interesting. The illustrations are complemented by black and white archive photographs and we've been lucky to have the help of Dr. Yuri Shepelev and his contacts at the Saint Petersburg archive in Russia to help out here. Add to that organizational charts and unit histories and this book finishes what Volume I began. 1 vol, 40 pgs

Oliver, Dennis PANTHER: Panther and Jagdpanther Tank Units in the East - Bagration To Berlin Vol. I
In the battles to hold the Eastern Front, the Panther tank was perhaps the most important weapon in the Wehrmacht's arsenal. Desperately switched from one crisis-point to the next, the Panther battalions of the Heer, Waffen-SS, and the Luftwaffe were able to blunt the Red Army's spearheads time and again and in 1944 the Panther's body was used to create the Jagdpanther tank destroyer. This 10th book in ADH's Firefly Collection -- and the first in a series -- examines these deservedly famous tanks and their crews.
Volume 1 includes * Unit histories of the Army's Panther battalions from Panzer-Regiment 1 to Panzer-Regiment 25. * 13 pages of full color artwork * Detailed tables of organization and explanation of the KstN system * Black and white archive photographs and campaign maps 1 vol, 40 pgs

Pignato, N AUTOMITRAGLIATRICI MOTOMITRAGLIATRICI ARMORED AND THE GREAT WAR
During the First World War the Italian army was not able to send out, for the limited possibilities for industry and the lack of cooperation of the Allies, 'tanks' that had appeared in Flanders since September 1916. However, the Supreme Command was able to field a small group of armored automitragliatrici on the Isonzo between 1915 and 1916. Others were prepared in late 1917, and after the retreat on the Piave were used both to counter the Austrian offensive in June at Vittorio Veneto.
The volume traces its troubled history, along with that short of motomitragliatrici departments created in the summer of 1918. The author, after having dwelt on technical developments of the machine Ansaldo, also recalls the studies of numerous patents and inventors. Illustrated with 208 images and 19 b/w plates . 1 vol, 126 pgs

Pulham, Francis FALLEN GIANTS: The Combat Debut of the T-35A Tank
The Soviet T-35A is the only five-turreted tank in history to enter production. With a long and proud service history on Soviet parade grounds, the T-35A was forced to adapt to the modern battlefield when WWII broke out.
Outclassed and outdated, the T-35A tried to hold its own against the German invaders to no avail. Very little is known about these strange vehicles, beyond their basic shape and photographs of them on parade grounds and battlefields. Battlefield photographs have been cross-referenced with maps and documents to bring about a complete look at the T-35A in WWII. It is a grim depiction of the aftermath of the giants that were the Soviet T-35A tanks. 1 vol, 144 pgs

Restayn, Jean TIGER I in Action - 1942-1945
In April 1941, two months prior to operation 'Barbarossa,' Adolf Hitler ordered the development of a heavy tank, armed with the famed 88 mm gun. This tank became a legend in its own time. Feared by its adversaries and liked by its crews, the Tiger etched its mark in history and the legend carries on, 60 years after the end of the war.
This compilation of the two volumes dealing with Tiger units on the Eastern front, the Western front, and Africa, features almost a thousand period pictures, mostly unpublished, and more than 80 full-color plates by the author: tank profiles, details of markings and insignia, camouflage, and a short history of each Tiger unit. This edition has been revised and augmented, with more accurate captions as to dates and locale, together with new illustrations and a chapter on additional units. 1 vol, 288 pgs

Ribinson, M.P. CHAR LECLERC
The Leclerc is the only battle tank serving in operational combat units in the French Army. Designed as a Cold War era tank killer that could take on numerically superior enemies, the Leclerc has served the armies of France and the United Arab Emirates for over twenty years. Since 1989 when the first Leclerc prototype appeared, it has been counted amongst the world's most complex and deadly AFVs.
Despite its fame, relatively little has appeared on the Leclerc in English, and much of the information about the Leclerc on the web is incorrect. Even in French, it has been ten years since the Leclerc was studied in a published work. 313 photographs, 10 painting schemes.
Char Leclerc by MP Robinson and Thierry Guillemain is a survey of the Leclerc's development and service in the French Army right up to the present day. It explains the differences between the eleven Leclerc production batches produced for the French Army, the different Leclerc derived vehicles, and the changes that have transformed the French armored force since the Leclerc first entered service.
This latest addition to the Kagero Photosniper series is illustrated with over 220 unpublished photographs and ten color plates, making it an ideal reference for historians and modelers alike. 1 vol, 96 pgs

Robinson, M.P. AMX-30: Char de Bataille 1966-2006
The AMX-30 was France's principal battle tank for over 30 years and continues to serve the French Army in later forms even to this day. In this first work of a two-volume study examining the history of the AMX-30 battle tank, Robinson describes the development and introduction to service of this long serving weapon system.
Photographic coverage in Volume 1 is focused on the AMX-30B gun tank, its service life and the supporting vehicles that served alongside it in the Arme Blindee Cavalerie in the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. Robinson, M.P. CHALLENGER 2: The British Main Battle Tank - Images of war series
For much of the Cold War, the British Army's main battle tanks (MBT) were first the Centurion and then the Chieftain. The question of the latter's replacement became urgent when in 1980 MBT80 was canceled. While the Royal Ordnance Challenger (originally the Shir 2) was acquired as a stop gap its design and capability limitations quickly became apparent. 250 color & black and white illustrations
Vickers then took over the Royal Ordnance tank building facility and against stiff foreign competition developed the Challenger 2.
This superbly illustrated book tells the story of the evolution and subsequent successful career of Challenger 2 which has seen distinguished service in war and peace since 1990 and has proved itself one of the worlds most formidable fighting vehicles. Includes technical detail and comparisons with competitors. 1 vol, 176 pgs

Schneider, Wolfang PANZER REGIMENT 1
The oldest Panzer regiment of the Wehrmacht has not yet been documented in the military literature. On 112 pages the creation of this unit is covered in an impressive photo review with the first years before the war, the campaign periods in the Sudeten, in Poland, Belgium, France, Russia, Greece, Italy and in Hungary. Included are detailed inventory tables, campaign maps and unit structure organizations. The photo story also shows the different vehicle markings throughout the war. Almost all of the 300 photos taken from veteran albums are hitherto unpublished. 1 vol, 112 pgs

Schneider, Wolfgang TIGERS IN COMBAT III: Operation, Training, Tactics
Tigers in Combat Volume III closes the gap between the unit histories of volumes 1 and 2 and the technical descriptions in the Jentz and Spielberger books. For the first time, efforts are described in detail of what was taken to create units and what was required to keep the Tiger tank in action regarding handling and operating the vehicle. Other chapters deal with crew training and specific tactical aspects to employ such a heavy tank under all fighting conditions.
Further aspects are covered, such as the protection level of the Tiger and reasons for losses - as well as propaganda work with this famous beast. Due to the usage of more than 1200 photos and drawings, even complex crew tasks and procedures are illustrated in a way that non-Tiger crewmen will be able to comprehend. 1 vol, 520 pgs

Stapfer, Hans-Hneri GERMAN ARMORED CARS IN ACTION
Germany began developing its heavy armored cars well before the outbreak of World War II. Germany's early six-wheel armored cars were based on 6x4 truck chassis, and their off-road mobility was limited. These vehicles soon gave way to an expanding series of eight-wheel drive/eight-wheel steer vehicles fitted with a variety of armament.
In time these too were supplanted by even larger armored cars incorporating refinements based on lessons learned from the vehicles' field experience, such as heavier armor, armament, and an air-cooled engine. Packed with more than 220 period photographs, this book chronicles the development and deployment of Germany's six and eight-wheeled armored cars before and during WWII. 1 vol, 80 pgs

Stapfer, Hans-Hneri JAGDPANZER 38 HETZER Walk Around
By the end of World War II, the Jagdpanzer 38 Hetzer was the Wehrmacht's most widely used tank destroyer. Armed with the formidable Rheinmetall-Borsig Pak 39 L/48 7.5cm anti-tank gun the Hetzer served on both the Western and Eastern fronts. More than 2,800 Jagdpanzer 38s were build in just over one year -- from April 1944 through May 1945 -- far more than any other WWII German tank destroyer.
This groundbreaking volume features detailed photos of early, medium, and late Hetzer variants and contains the first-ever published wartime photos of the vehicle's interior. Pictures of Jagdpanzer 38 vehicles in Bulgarian and Swiss service appear here for the first time, and the SK-23 steam-powered recovery vehicle based on the Hetzer is also documented along with extensive coverage of the G 13, including the first-ever color photographs of that variant's interior. Illustrated with over 200 photographs, plus detailed line drawings, and color profiles. 1 vol, 80 pgs

Stokes, Neil SU-85 and SU-100 ON THE BATTLEFIELD
The SU-85 and SU-100 self-propelled guns were based on the proven chassis of the T-34 Medium Tank, and were used primarily in the antitank role. From mid-1943 onward, the SU-85 gave the Soviet forces a useful tank destroyer with a significant firepower advantage over the T-34's 76.2mm gun. With the introduction of the T-34/85 in early 1944, the SU-85 design was upgraded with a 100mm gun to retain its firepower advantage, though a shortage of 100mm guns led to a number of improved hulls being armed with 85mm guns as the SU-85M. This book provides a pictorial history of the development and combat deployment of the SU-85, SU-85M and SU-100, illustrated with around 100 photographs. 1 vol, 112 pgs

Tank Museum, The TANK SPOTTER'S GUIDE
Invented during World War I to break the grim deadlock of the Western Front trenches, tanks have gone on to revolutionize warfare. From the lightning Blitzkrieg assaults of World War II to the great battles in the Middle Eastern desert and the largest ever tank battles on the Eastern Front, tanks have become one of the key components of the 'combined arms' philosophy of warfare. This pocket guide gives the reader all of the essential information on 40 of history's premiere tanks, including the Tiger, Sherman, Panther and M1A1 Abrams. Each tank is presented with a detailed drawing to aid recognition. 1 vol, 128 pgs

Taylor, Dick INTO THE VALLEY - The Valentine Tank and Derivatives 1938 - 1960
200+ b/w photos, 40+ color profiles and detail photos, 20+ scale plans.
The Valentine, unlike most British tanks to see service during WWII, began life as a private venture. That is, it was not designed to a General Staff (GS) specification, but came off the drawing-board with the intention of exciting enough interest within the military establishment to secure an order.
The Valentine had the highest production numbers of any wartime British tank, and arguably the most variations. A total of 8000+ Valentines were produced in no fewer than 11 variants. The Valentine tank received its baptism of fire with the British 8th Army in Operation Crusader in North Africa during July 1941, representing just the beginning of a long career, as they would eventually take part in combat in both the European and Pacific Theaters. After the war, Valentines served in several armies as late as 1960. Valentines also saw action with the armed forces of Canada, the Soviet Union, Poland, Australia, and New Zealand.

Thomas, Paul GERMAN HALFTRACKS AT WAR 1939-1945 - Images of War Series
In the aftermath of The Great War, which saw the introduction of the tank, the more far sighted military leaders realized that the future of warfare hinged on a balance of mobility, firepower and protection.
Tanks would need to be accompanied into battle by supporting arms, specifically infantry, artillery and engineers. An all fully-tracked field army was thought to be too expensive, so the semi-tracked support vehicle (commonly called a halftrack) was born. The halftrack concept was embraced by the French, the US and most notably Germany.
The Germans commissioned numerous types of half-tracked tractors, which were classified by the weight of their towed load. These vehicles were designated Sonderkraffarzeug (special motorized vehicle), abbreviated as Sd.Kfz. Without these vehicles the Blitzkrieg would not have been possible.
These front-wheel steering vehicles with tracked drive transformed the fighting quality of the armored divisions. They carried the infantry alongside the advancing panzers and brought guns and pontoon-bridge sections. The halftrack also became the preferred reconnaissance vehicle.

Vauvillier, Francois LES CANONS DE LA VICTORIE V2- Heavy artillery
August 2, 1914, both sides developed during four years a formidable artillery of very large size. But in this race to gigantism, France has been delayed, she will have to fill a forced march. The first resource artillery great power in support of our Hairy in the trenches, are provided at the end of the year 1914 by the Navy puts on shore or on barges and river gunboats, pieces of 100 mm, 14 , 16, 19 and 24 cm. The Coast Artillery also provides similar resources in guns, but the adaptation of these edge pieces and side-war position on earth requires the development of special carriages of using for Most of them appropriate support: the rail. Thus was born a powerful heavy artillery on track (ALVF), based on impressive carriages, trucks, numbering several hundred in 1918, will be the instruments of a steel flood. This small, highly structured volume looks at some 49 different materials of this kind, modest 95mm side mounted on armored car, to the impressive hardware 340, 370 and 400 mm, not to mention the most gigantic of all, the howitzer of 520 mm model 1916-265 tons rail - whose shell alone weighed over 1,600 pounds. 1 vol, 68 pgs

Vauvillier, Francois LES CANONS DE LA VICTORIE V3 l'Artillerie de Cote et l'Artillerie de Tranch
This third volume of the Guns of Victory reviews two quite different types of equipment. First, the Coast Artillery, which played a very discreet role because the Allies had mastery of the seas. Most of the guns however became famous in another role, installed on railway carriages or on various other means of land transport adapted to a static war.
The second group, the Trench Artillery, did not exist in France at the beginning of the war and had to be developed in chaotic conditions in the unexpected context of the colossal siege warfare imposed on the belligerents on the Western Front in the autumn of 1914. From the modest grenade launcher to the gigantic 340-mm trench mortar, this very structured volume deals with all the models of this frontline artillery, scrupulously following the pattern of the two previous volumes. 1 vol, 68 pgs

Ware, Pat and Delf, Brian THE CENTURION TANK: - Images of War Series
Few tank designs have been as effective, versatile and long-lived as that of the British Centurion. Conceived during the Second World War as the answer to the superior German Tiger and Panther tanks and to the lethal 88mm gun, this 52-ton main battle tank incorporated the lessons British designers had learned about armored fighting vehicles during the conflict, and it was free of the major faults that had impaired the other British tank designs of the time. The Centurion was so successful that it served in the British Army and in numerous other armies across the world from 1945 until the 1990s.
Pat Ware's highly illustrated history of this remarkable tank covers its design and development, its technical specifications and the many variants that were produced. He tells the story from the design brief of 1943, through testing and trials to the tank's entry into service. In addition, he traces the course of the Centurion's subsequent career, as it was up-dated, up-gunned and adapted to operate in varied conditions and conflicts all over the world including Korea, the Indo-Pakistan wars, Vietnam and the Arab-Israeli wars.
His expert account of this remarkable fighting vehicle is accompanied by a series of color plates showing the main variants of the design and the common ancillary equipment and unit markings. His book is an essential work of reference for enthusiasts with 90 color and b/w photos. 1 vol, 128 pgs

Zaloga, Steven ARMORED THUNDERBOLT: The U.S. Army Sherman in World War II
Hundreds of photos, including many never published before, with riveting accounts of armored warfare in World War II. Compares the Sherman to other tanks, including the Panther and Tiger.
Some tank crews referred to the American M4 Sherman tank as a 'death trap.' Others, like Gen. George Patton, believed that the Sherman helped win World War II. So which was it? Armor expert Steven Zaloga answers that question by recounting the Sherman's combat history. Focusing on Northwest Europe (but also including a chapter on the Pacific), Zaloga follows the Sherman into action on D-Day, among the Normandy hedgerows, during Patton's race across France, in the great tank battle at Arracourt in September 1944, at the Battle of the Bulge, and across the Rhine. 1 vol, 384 pgs

Zaloga, Steven editor BATTLEGROUND: The Greatest Tank Duels in History
The tank came of age during World War II at the cutting edge of Hitler's Blitzkreig and became the most powerful machine on the 20th-century battlefield. But what was it like to be a driver or gunner in the Battle of the Bulge, on the Eastern Front, the deserts of North Africa, or the dusty plains of Iraq? From the Sherman and the Tiger to the Abrams M1, Battleground shows how tank crews dealt with the deafening noise and scorching heat of battle whilst driving and operating tons of sophisticated machinery. Packed with breathtaking first-hand accounts and with real-life insights and detailed drawings, this book takes readers inside the greatest tanks ever developed in the some of the most crucial duels of modern land warfare.
