1-219050 Taylor, David ARMIES & LEGIONS & HORDES 10,000 miniatures and more! That's how many wargaming models Dave Taylor has painted over the last 27 years. That's dozens of armies, for some of the most popular wargames systems (and some of the most obscure, too!) Some of these have been commissions and others have been personal projects. During that time, he has had a LOT of conversations about the what, why, and how of the inspiration, preparation, and motivation for such large projects.

The book also contains contributions from some of his favorite army painters including: Brandon Palmer from GMM Studios, Ash Barker from Guerrilla Miniature Games, Teri Litorco from That Teri Girl, Mel Bose from The Terrain Tutor, Joel Moon from the Mordian 7th blog, John Cadice from Ninja Division, Brian Carlson from the Brian Carlson Miniatures blog, and John Lyons from Beasts of War.1 vol, 172 pgs 2016 UK, WARLORD GAMES

1-219060 Priestly, Rick WARLORDS OF EREHWON: Rulebook Warlords of Erehwon is a fantasy-based game designed for 28mm tabletop warfare. The gameplay is built around the D10 system developed for the science-fiction game Beyond the Gates of Antares and also using the order dice mechanic first used in the Bolt Action WWII rules. Uses order dice the same as Bolt Action or Gates of Antares.

A 'warband' force is imagined to number anywhere from 20 to 30 models to about 50 to 60 -- between skirmish and mass battle levels.

Warlord of Erehwon Races: Barbarians, Beastman, Dwarf, Elven, Gnoll War Party, Goblin, Halfing, Knightly Retinue, Olympian, Orc, Undead, and Monsters.1 vol, 242 pgs 2019 UK, WARLORD GAMES

1-219061 Priestly, Rick WARLORDS OF EREHWON: Children of Hydra's Teeth Skeleton Host 28mm Figures Skeleton Host contains 90 plastic warrior figures + 1 metal command figure.

The undead horde is primarily made up of corpse-soldiers that we call skeletons but the list can easily represent a variety of interpretations of undead warriors in various states of decay. At its head we have an undead champion - the corpse of some great hero or warrior of renown returned to life to do the bidding of its sorcerous master. The champion is a powerful fighter and has the option to represent a member of the spectral undead such as a wight.

skeleton troopers can be insubstantial spectral creatures if we wish our forces to represent the spirits or essences of long-dead warriors rather than their material remnants. Skeleton warriors can be armed with swords or spears, others wield bows or crossbows, or ride skeletal steeds or chariots drawn by the same.1 vol, 91 pgs 2019 UK, WARLORD GAMES

1-219062 Priestly, Rick WARLORDS OF EREHWON: Azbad's Orc Host Orc Host contains 90 plastic warrior figures + 1 metal command figure.

Orc warriors are big brutes that favor crude weapons that we call swords for want of a better word but might equally well be described as cleavers, butcher's knives, machetes and hedge hooks. They can also carry spears or halberds of equally brutish design. Bows and crossbows are also on the menu, though frankly Orcs are poor shots and are better employed at close quarters. They are at the top of their game when fighting hand-to-hand, with high natural strength and a choice of special rules including ferocious charge.

Orc leaders are if anything bigger and even more brutal than their troops. Chieftains can be armed with huge swords and are prone to making ferocious charges, but otherwise carry the usual weaponry and limited armour. Orc chieftains prefer to lead by example rather than worrying too much about tactical subtlety. The best fighters amongst them are champions, and woe betide anyone who gets in the way of these killing machines with options that include ferocious charge, irresistible charge, and vengeful.1 vol, 91 pgs 2019 UK, WARLORD GAMES

1-219020 Saunders, Tim THE SIEGES OF CUIDAD RODRIGO 1810 AND 1812: The Peninsular War The area astride the Spanish/Portuguese border between the respective fortresses of Ciudad Rodrigo and Almeida was the focus of the Peninsular War for much of the period from the autumn of 1809 through until 1812. Includes 200 black and white illustrations.

The fortress of Ciudad Rodrigo that dominated the country between the Rivers Agueda and Coa, was one of the 'Keys to Spain' for any army attacking either east or west across the frontier. With the defeat of the Fifth Coalition at Wagram in 1809, Napoleon was free to turn his attention to the rebellious Iberian Peninsula and the small British Army. Tasking a reluctant Marshal Massena to 'throw the leopard into sea,' preparations started for what proved to be a protracted and lackluster siege.

Marshal Ney, however, champed at the bit and wanted to press on with the invasion and despite an increasing tempo of outpost actions, such as the renowned affair at Barbra del Puerco, Napoleon in attempting to control events from Paris, insisted on an orderly siege. With the fall of Ciudad Rodrigo, Craufurd's Light Division remained covering the Army's frontage but after a superbly conducted withdrawal, Craufurd's judgement erred and he was force into a costly fighting withdrawal to the River Coa.

The British now fell back into Portugal but by Spring 1811 they were back and with Napoleon stripping troops from the Peninsular Wellington could prepare to invade Spain and besiege Ciudad Rodrigo. Preparations for the siege were almost complete in December 1811, when further troops were stripped from Marshal Marmont, an opportunity to presented itself for a lightening operation to take Ciudad Rodrigo in the 1812 siege, which was of very different character.1 vol, 280 pgs 2018 UK, PEN & SWORD

1-219010 Samuel, Mardsen THE GERMAN ARMOURED CRUISER SMS BLUCHER The SMS Blucher was the last armored cruiser built by the German Empire. She was constructed to counter the new armored cruisers rumored as being built by the British. Blucher was larger than preceding armored cruisers and carried heavier guns but was unable to match the size and armament of the battlecruisers which replaced armored cruisers in the British Royal Navy and - later - the Imperial German Navy (Kaiserliche Marine).

When the Germans learned of the true details of these new British ships, called Invincible class, and that they were to be armored with 12-inch battleship guns, they realized that the Invincible class was a completely new type of warship, soon to be known as battlecruisers. By the time the Germans learned of this it was too late to turn back and construction of the Blucher took place as scheduled. The ship was named after the Prussian Field Marshal Gebhard von Blucher, the commander of the Prussian forces at the Battle of Waterloo in 1815. 1-219051 Claringbold, Michael SOUTH PACIFIC AIR WAR: Volume 1 - The Fall of Rabaul December 1941 - March 1942 This is the full story of both sides of an air war that could have been won by either incumbent, and examines the impact of timing, crucial decisions, and luck. Fully illustrated in color.

This volume chronicles aerial warfare in the South Pacific from December 1941 until March 1942, during which air operations by both sides became a daily occurrence. As Imperial Japanese Navy flying boats and land-based bombers penetrated over vast distances, a few under-strength squadrons of the Royal Australian Air Force put up a spirited fight. However it was the supreme power of aircraft carriers that had the biggest impact. Four Japanese fleet carriers facilitated the capture of Rabaul over a devastating four-day period in January 1942. The following month, the USS Lexington's fighter squadron VF-3 scored one of the most one-sided victories of the entire Pacific War. By March 1942 the Japanese had landed on mainland New Guinea, and the scene was set for a race to control Port Moresby.1 vol, 352 pgs 2017 AUSTRALIA, AVONMORE BOOKS

1-218980 Forty, Simon FROM THE RIVIERA TO THE RHINE: US Sixth Army Group August 1944 - February 1945 Two months after D-Day, just as the battle of Normandy was reaching its climax, with all eyes on the Falaise Pocket, the Allies unleashed the second invasion of France, not in the Pas de Calais but the French Riviera. Immaculately planned, effectively undertaken, the Allies quickly broke out of their bridgehead, drove 400 miles into France in three weeks, and liberated 10,000 square miles of French territory while inflicting 143,250 German casualties. On September 10 they linked up with Patton's Third Army and advanced into the Vosges Mountains, taking Strasbourg and holding the area against the Germans' final big attack in the west: Operation Nordwind in January 1945.
450 black and white and color photographs throughout

US Seventh Army and 6th Army Group undertook a successful campaign placing a third Allied army group with its own independent supply lines in northeastern France, at a time when the two northern Allied army groups were stretched to the limit. Without this force the Allies would have struggled to hold the frontage to Switzerland and Third Army would have been exposed to attack in its southern flank-something that could have had disastrous repercussions particularly during the Ardennes offensive of December 1944.

The images of palm trees and azure seas obscure our view of this campaign. It was no cakewalk. The Germans knew the Allies were coming and had strong defenses in the area. A shortage of landing craft, vehicles, and materiel meant that the US Seventh and French First armies were restricted in the assault. The heavy fog and anti-glider defenses made for a difficult airborne assault, but it was carried out effectively, the amphibious assault was textbook in execution and the invasion of southern France ended up as a significant victory.

But the story of 6th Army Group wasn't finished. Taking up a position on the east flank of Third Army it fought its way through the Vosges and withstood the Germans' last throw: Operation Nordwind-the vain attempt to relieve pressure on the Ardennes assault by attacking in the Vosges. Heavy fighting pressed hard towards Strasbourg but the Allies were ultimately victorious, inflicting severe losses on the Germans.1 vol, 192 pgs 2018 US, CASEMATE PUBLISHERS

1-219040 Krysov, Vasiliy PANZER DESTROYER: Memoirs of a Red Army Tank Commander The day after Vasiliy Krysov finished school, on 22 June 1941, Germany attacked the Soviet Union and provoked a war of unparalleled extent and cruelty. For the next three years, as a tank commander, Krysov fought against the German panzers in some of the most intense and destructive armored engagements in history-including those at Stalingrad, Kursk and Konigsberg.

This is the remarkable story of his war. As the commander of a heavy tank, a self-propelled gun, a tank destroyer, and a T-34 tank, he fought his way across Russia, the Ukraine and Poland against a skillful and determined enemy which had previously never known defeat. Krysov repeatedly faced tough SS panzer divisions, like the SS Leibstandarte Adolf Hitler Panzer Division in the Bruilov-Fastov area in 1943, and the SS Das Wiking Panzer Division in Poland in 1944. Krysov was at Kursk and participated in a counterattack at Ponyri. The ruthlessness of this long and bitter campaign is vividly depicted in his narrative, as is the enormous scale and complexity of the fighting.

Honestly, and with an extraordinary clarity of recall, he describes confrontations with German Tiger and Panther tanks and deadly anti-tank guns. He was wounded four times, his crewmen and his commanding officers were killed, but he was fated to survive and record his experience of combat. 1 vol, 224 pgs 2018 UK, PEN & SWORD

1-219030 Lewis, Tom CARRIER ATTACK DARWIN 1942: The Complete Guide to Australia's Own Pearl Harbor Provides a timely and fresh analysis of the raid using specially-translated Japanese sources.

When the Pacific war began it was a case of 'when, not if' Darwin would be attacked. But nobody could have predicted the extraordinary scale and ferocity of the 19 February 1942 raid. A massive strike force, blooded at Pearl Harbor just weeks before, hit Darwin in the biggest Japanese air attack ever in the South Pacific. Since then, generations of Australians have been drawn to the stories and folklore of the Darwin action. But facts have blurred and mythology has thrived. Fully illustrated in color

What of the warning that never happened? What of the ghost ship actually sunk in the Atlantic a year earlier? Did a fighter pilot contrive a false combat record? Did the authorities cover up the raid? Why do Australians know so little about it? This is the book that tests these many Darwin myths and reveals new information: another ship sunk; the actual intent and nature of the attack; the precise extent of the Japanese losses.

The Darwin raid is usually portrayed as a wholesale disaster for the Allies, and a day full of military ineptitude. Carrier Attack shows the defenders were alert and fought with purpose. Arguably it was the Japanese that wasted much of their attacking strength, and in this way the Darwin defenders avoided a much larger catastrophe. 1 vol, 368 pgs 2013 AUSTRALIA, AVONMORE BOOKS
