1-216099 SAGA: Book of Battles The Book of Battles is a supplement divided into five sections: Skirmishes, Battles, Legends, Mass Battles, and Sagas. It is not a SAGA Universe, but a collection of scenarios and game variants that can be applied to any Universe in which you decide to play. It is therefore a perfect complement to the rulebook, a companion that enlarges its horizons by proposing alternatives to the basic Clash of Warlords scenario.

SKIRMISHES: Offers only one scenario, Battle of Heroes, and a multitude of possible combinations (more than 5,000), guaranteeing almost infinite re-playability. Skirmishes offer balanced games, and require no specific terrain pieces or particular rules not already included in Clash of Warlords. Thus, any group of players with access to the terrain pieces used in Clash of Warlords can play multiple variations of Battle of Heroes.

BATTLES: Before presenting the battle scenarios, this chapter offers a set of special rules specific to these scenarios, notably covering new terrain types, like buildings. Battles offer balanced encounters, but require specific terrain pieces, or the introduction of particular rules which can give an advantage to certain ways of assembling a warband. They are also noticeably more complex than Clash of Warlords and Battle of Heroes, but also offer very unusual situations for your Warlord to test himself against.

LEGENDS: Covers narrative scenarios that tell an interesting story rather than providing a perfectly balanced struggle. It will suit players wishing to explore SAGA in a different, less competitive, and more narrative way. They sometimes place constraints on how warbands are assembled, in order to save the story from the excesses of gamers! Thus, it is best to agree with your opponent in advance that you will play a legend during your session, so that each player can bring an appropriate warband. Includes a collection of special rules that will be used in these specific scenarios.

MASS BATTLES: Deals with games of three or four players and presents several scenarios designed to play SAGA with three or four players. Mass Battles are a unique chance to appreciate SAGA with every member of a gaming group, each one leading their own warband. The balance depends as much on the warbands involved as the relations between the players; some scenarios will win renown for the most diplomatic players, and others the most opportunistic.

SAGAS: Covers the linking of games into an overarching saga. Rather than detailing a traditional and constraining campaign system, the Sagas chapter offers a simple experience system, allowing your Warlord to increase his influence and develop new talents.1 vol, 50 pgs 2018 UK, STUDIO TOMAHAWK

1-1992912 Kinrade, Warwick BATTLEGROUP: Spring Awakening HUNGARY, 1945: The Red Army invaded and pushed the Axis forces west, driving them beyond the Danube river. Budapest is under siege, with its garrison is trapped and fighting a desperate battle. To save them and secure the borders of the Reich, the Axis armies launch three relief operations. Unable to break through, a larger offensive with the last of the panzer divisions is planned for the spring. Operation Spring Awakening will try to drive the Red Army back over the Danube and secure Germany's remaining oil supply; without it, the war will be over.

* BACKGROUND: A general overview of the war in Hungary in 1945, viewed by the Germans as their priority front line. From the siege of Budapest, through relief Operations Konrad I, II, and III, to Operation Spring Awakening and the large Russian counter-offensive that would drive Russian tanks all the way to Vienna.

* ARMY LIST: Designed to be used with the Russian army lists already published in Battlegroup Fall of the Reich, this book contains two new army lists, for the last German panzer divisions and the Hungarian army, as well as alterations to the Russian Fall of the Reich army lists, to better recreate the battles in Hungary in the winter and spring of 1945.

* SPECIAL RULES: New special rules to adapt the core Battlegroup game to the Hungarian battlefields of 1945. The special rules recreate the character of the armored clash, with the last of Germany's panzer forces, SS, and Heer, aided by their rather unreliable Hungarian allies, to face the powerful Russian Tank Corps. All take place in the winter snows and spring thaw mudbath, in the largest clash of late-war heavy armor. This book requires Battlegroup Fall of the Reich to use in full, including its Battle Rating counters.

* CAMPAIGN Six new historical scenarios in a detailed narrative campaign for 1st SS Panzer Division's hard-fought assault along the Sarviz canal during Operation Spring Awakening.

PLEASE NOTE: This is a campaign supplement and a copy of the Ruleset hard back book and Fall of the Reich pdf will be needed to play.1 vol, 96 pgs 2018 UK, THE PLASTIC SOLDIER COMPANY

* Wargame: Corbach 1760. During the offensive in Germany, Broglie was with the main French forces in Frankenberg in Hesse, 30 km south of Corbach. He ordered Saint Germain to join him with the Army of the Rhine. Ferdinand, duke of Brunswick, stationed 10 km east of Corbach, sent the Erbprinz of Brunswick to prevent the junction of the two French armies. The Prinz, having made contact with Kielmansegg Corps, decided to attack what he though was only the vanguard of St. Germain. However Broglie himself with six brigades arrived on the battlefield while some German reinforcement force-marched to join the fight.

Corbach 1760 uses the same system as Hastenbeck 1757 (published in Vae Victis 126) with a slightly different scale: One combat point = 150 to 250 men; One hex = 200-250m, and One turn = 30 min.1 vol, 84 pgs 2018 FRANCE, CERIGO EDITIONS

1-995264 Lardas, Mark 264 SOUTH AMERICAN BATTLESHIPS 1908-59: Brazil, Argentina, and Chile's Great Dreadnought Race In 1908 the most incredible naval arms race in history began. Flush with cash from rubber and coffee, Brazil decided to order three of the latest, greatest category of warship available - the dreadnought battleship. One Brazilian dreadnought by itself could defeat the combined gunnery of every other warship of all the other South American nations. Brazil's decision triggered its neighbor Argentina to order its own brace of dreadnoughts, which in turn forced Chile (which had fought boundary disputes with Argentina) to order some.

In the process, the South American dreadnought mania drove the three participants nearly into insolvency, led to the bankruptcy of a major shipyard, and triggered a chain of events which led Turkey to declare war on Great Britain. It also produced several groundbreaking dreadnought designs and one of the world's first aircraft carriers.1 vol, 48 pgs 2018 UK, OSPREY PUBLISHING

1-995265 Noppen, Ryan 265 SUPERGUNS 1854-1991: Extreme Artillery from the Paris Gun and the V-3 to Iraq's Project Babylon Over the last 150 years, gun designers have sought to transform warfare with artillery of superlative range and power, from William Armstrong's 19th-century 'monster guns' to the latest research into hypersonic electro-magnetic railguns.

Taking a case study approach, Superguns explains the technology and role of the finest monster weapons of each era. It looks at the 1918 'Wilhelm Gun,' designed to shell Paris from behind the German trenches; the World War II 'V-3' gun built to bombard London across the Channel; the Cold War atomic cannons of the US and Soviet Union; and the story of Dr Gerald Bull's HARP program and the Iraqi 'Supergun' he designed for Saddam Hussein. Illustrated throughout, this is an authoritative history of the greatest and most ambitious artillery pieces of all time.

1-996329 Fields, Nic 329 MUTINA 43 BC: Mark Antony's Struggle for Survival In the aftermath of the murder of Gaius Julius Caesar, his self-declared successor Mark Antony struggled to hold together his legacy. Following an abortive coup attempt by Caesar's adopted son Octavian, two of Antony's legions declared for him, leading to a renewed outbreak of civil war. Antony moved into northern Italy and invaded the city of Mutina, which was held by Decimus Brutus. There they were quickly sandwiched between the city walls on one side and the newly arrived Senate-backed forces of Octavian on the other.

These two heirs of Caesar then fought to claim their former mentor's legacy. Fully illustrated with specially commissioned artwork and maps, this is the full story of the battles which would see Octavian move from being a young, inexperienced aristocrat to the dominating figure of Augustus.1 vol, 96 pgs 2018 UK, OSPREY PUBLISHING

1-997226 Robinsom, Merlin 226 DIVISION LECLERC: The Leclerc Column and Free French 2nd Armored Division 1940-1946 'General Leclerc' was the nom de guerre adopted by the Gaullist officer Philippe de Hautcloque, to protect his family in occupied France. He became France's foremost fighting commander, and his armored division (the '2e DB') its most famous formation.

Starting as a small scratch force of mostly African troops organized and led by Leclerc in French Equatorial Africa, it achieved early success raiding Italian and German positions in co-operation with Britain's Long Range Desert Group. Following the Allied victory in North Africa it was expanded and reorganized as a US Army-style armored division, with American tanks and other armored vehicles.

Shipped to the UK, in spring 1944, it was assigned to Patton's US Third Army, landing in time for the Normandy breakout and being given the honor of liberating Paris in August 1944. Combining a thorough analysis of their combat and organization with detailed color plates of their uniforms and equipment, this is the story of Free France's most effective fighting force. 1 vol, 64 pgs 2018 UK, OSPREY PUBLISHING

1-218540 Davies, Huw J. SPYING FOR WELLINGTON: British Military Intelligence in the Peninsular War Intelligence is often the critical factor in a successful military campaign. This was certainly the case for Arthur Wellesley, the Duke of Wellington, in the Peninsular War. This book offers the full account of the scope, complexity, and importance of Wellington's intelligence department, describing a highly organized, multifaceted series of networks of agents and spies throughout Spain and Portugal - an organization that was at once a microcosm of British intelligence at the time and a sophisticated forebear to intelligence developments in the twentieth century.

He had, in effect, two parallel networks: one made up of Foreign Office agents 'run' by British ambassadors in Spain and Portugal, and the other comprising military spies controlled by Wellington himself. The network of agents supplied strategic intelligence, giving the British army advance warning of the arrival, destinations, and likely intentions of French reinforcements. The military network supplied operational intelligence, which confirmed the accuracy of the strategic intelligence and provided greater detail on the strengths, arms, and morale of the French forces.

By integrating these two forms of intelligence, Wellington was able to develop an extremely accurate and reliable estimate of French movements and intentions not only in his own theater of operations but also in other theaters across the Iberian Peninsula. The reliability and accuracy of this intelligence was central to Wellington's decision-making and, ultimately, to his overall success against the French.

Correcting past, incomplete accounts, it contributes to a clearer, more comprehensive understanding of Wellington at war and of his place in the history of British military intelligence.1 vol, 328 pgs 2018 US, UNIVERSITY OF OKLAHOMA PRESS

1-218600 Limm, Andrew WALCHEREN TO WATERLOO: The British Army in the Low Countries during French Revolutionary and Napoleonic Wars 1793-1815 The military success achieved by the Duke of Wellington casts a long shadow over the history of the British army in the French Revolutionary and Napoleonic wars. The popular account of Britain's military record in the great struggle against Napoleonic France is chiefly one of glorious victories, with Britain cast as the savior of Europe from the Corsican 'monster.' Most British historians have focused on retelling stories of British success, notably Wellington's, in Spain, Portugal, and during the Hundred Days campaign and tend to pay little attention to British military defeats.

But is the focus on Wellington's successes really an appropriate way to understand the performance of the British army in a conflict which lasted over 20 years? And what about the army's poor record in the Low Countries, where it suffered defeats and sustained crippling losses during the same period? This study provides a more balanced account of the British contribution to the downfall of Napoleon.1 vol, 256 pgs 2018 UK, PEN & SWORD

1-930314 STRATEGY & TACTICS # 314: Last Stand Isandlwana Last Stand at Isandlwana, 22 January 1879 is a two-player tactical wargame of low-intermediate complexity simulating the last 90 to 240 minutes of that infamous and legendary battle of the Anglo-Zulu War. The Zulu player is on the offensive, attempting to wipe out the entire British force on the map as quickly as possible. The British is attempting to win by having some remnant hold out longer than occurred historically or, alternatively, by having some portion of his command escape off the map and get back to relative safety at Roarke's drift. Solitaire-play is easily doable.

Each game turn of Last Stand is equal to five to 20 minutes of real time, depending on the tempo of action in each turn. Each hexagon on the map represents 217 yards (200 meters) from side to opposite side. There are 176 5/8-inch counters with each British unit-counter representing a company or a 'detachment' of infantry. On the Zulu side, they individual units each represent temporary battlefield agglomerations of the about 100 to 200 warriors.

2-210640 Harrison, Richard editor ROLLBACK: The Red Army's Winter Offensive Along the Southwestern Strategic Direction 1942-43 Covers the period from mid-December 1942 to mid-February 1943, one of the most critical periods of the war on the Eastern Front. It was here that following the encirclement of an entire German army at Stalingrad, the Soviets sought to take advantage of the ruptured Axis front in southern Russia to finish off the Germans' Italian and Hungarian allies and liberate the economically vital areas of eastern Ukraine.

This study is drawn from a number of wartime and postwar articles, published by the General Staff's directorate for the study of wartime experience. Also featured are documents relating to the operational-strategic conduct of the various operations, which were compiled and published after the fall of the Soviet Union.

Includes Southwestern Front's Middle Don operation of December 1942 and subsequent Voronezh-Kastornoe operation. The offensive not only accomplished its objective of turning back the German attack, thus dooming the Stalingrad garrison, but also destroyed the Italian army in the East as well and enabled the Soviets to push as far west as Kursk.1 vol, 412 pgs 2018 UK, HELION AND COMPANY

1-938004 Various Strategy & Tactics Quarterly # 4: World War III: What Ifs? World War III: What Ifs? At the end of World War II, two superpowers emerged from the conflict: the United States and the Soviet Union. In the decades that followed, these two superpowers faced off in what became known as the Cold War.

This issue analyzes the military aspects of that long struggle between the two powers. The approach is to analyze where World War III might have started and been fought in each of the decades between 1945 and 1991. The chapters include original maps, orders of battle, and photographs. It is written to be of value to newcomers as well as those who consider themselves experts. The prose is clear and free of jargon, but rich in detail and analysis. This battle primarily involved the Australian 9th Infantry Division, as well as British artillery batteries that were tasked to prevent the capture of Tobruk harbor by the German 5th Light Division. Each game turn represents approximately six hours. Game turns are not divided into separate friendly and enemy turns, but rather they are comprised of numerous individual headquarters activations.
