WARGAMING IN HISTORY Vol. 10: THE SHENANDOAH VALLEY 1862

WARGAMING IN HISTORY Vol. 10: THE SHENANDOAH VALLEY 1862
by Drewienkiewicz, J. and Poole, A; Plates by Bob Marrion

1-1909310

THE SHENANDOAH VALLEY 1862: JACKSON'S VALLEY CAMPAIGN, KERNSTOWN, McDOWELL, FIRST WINCHESTER, CROSS KEYS AND PORT REPUBLIC.

As usual illustrated throughout in color with color maps and wargame photos, orders of battle etc. 2014. The latest volume in the series goes to one of the most fruitful of campaigns to wargame, Jackson's most famous series of battles in the Shenandoah Valley. In characteristic way the authors have not put pen to paper or soldier to table without the most thorough first-hand research of the ground, allowing them to tackle the real deciding issues of the campaign, such as the stone wall at Kernstown, the exhaustion of Schenck's troops at McDowell, Jackson moving in the wrong direction approaching Winchester, the gang of slaves who saved the day at Port Republic, the supply problems that dictate the campaign, and more.

As with previous volumes, this 'staff ride' doubles as a major history of the campaign and a state-of-the-art wargaming study.
