LE PORTAEREI ITALIANE: From 1912 to 1990's
by Cosentino, M illust by E. Bagnasco
1-196440
This authoritative book studies the design of the first fledgling Italian 'aircraft carrier,' the Europe, in 1915, and then the Giuseppe Miraglia of 1927, as well as the technical characteristics of these ships and their aircraft. Italy continued carrier development into WWII with the Eagle, its carrier that was almost finished in 1943, but never saw service in the war.
After the war, Italy built several helicopter carriers, then return to the concept of 'the whole bridge' with the aircraft carrier Garibaldi in 1985 and the recent Cavour, both equipped with vertical take-off and landing aircraft.
Includes 8 color plates, and 400+ b/w photos and drawings.
