WAFFEN-SS ARMOUR IN NORMANDY: Combat History of SS Panzer Regiment 12 and SS Panzerjager Abteilung 12, Normandy 1944
1-198080
Based on their original war diaries found in Prague, this is a day-by-day reproduction of the unit's entries from June to August 1944, with annotations by the author. The unit started the period with 205 tanks and officially lost 122 (all but eight to combat losses), but records are sketchy and most likely had been more. The Aug 9 entry notes 1st Bttn had only five surviving tanks while 2nd Bttn mentions 10. Entries discuss losses and combats, movements (with village/town names), enemy losses, ammo expenditures, and more.
Documents from SS-Panzer Regiment 12 presented in the book include the following: combat reports, list of knocked-out enemy tanks, German personnel and tank losses, combat orders, summary of acquired combat experiences and others. In addition, the book has benefited from the contribution of rare information, photographs and documents from the archive of noted Waffen-SS historian Mark C. Yerger.
Appendices include variety of copied documents. Includes 61 photographs, 21 documents, five black/white and eight color maps, and 23 tables. All color maps are two-page spreads that cover Caen, Operations Totalize and Tractable, and Falaise.
