The army of the Kingdom of Naples was active during the Napoleonic era. Volume 1 covers the period 1806-1808, when Napoleon assigned his brother Joseph Bonaparte to the the Kingdom, and after that, then to brother-in-law Joachim Murat, who had married his sister Carolina. In 1815, the defeat at Tolentino and subsequent capture and death of Murat by firing squad ended the French period of the Kingdom of Naples.
