L'ARMEE DE CESAR PENDANT LA GUERRE DES GAULES
1-211920
Careful examination of the military organization of the Gauls: weapons, tactics and the soldiers used during their wars. Includes 15 color plates and 90 b/w illustrations.
The Gallic wars is a major event in the history of the West. It is therefore surprising that the history of men who one conducted this conquest was as little interested in historians of the past. Fortunately, the first archaeological excavations, initiated by Napoleon III, helped to deepen our knowledge of this period, limited until then in ancient written sources, and clarify our image of men of Caesar.
However, the representation of this army has long limited to the only legionnaire. However we know that many Gauls, allies of Rome, and mercenaries to the origins have contributed to the success of the Roman Eagles. Caesar himself mentioned in his writings. Now, thanks to the recent discovered archaeological and news analyses of ancient texts, we have a more accurate vision of the Caesarean army. Through a vast enriched synthesis, original iconography, and a series of unpublished plates of crisp details, the authors discuss all aspects of the daily lives of the men who created this army.
