THE GATLING GUN NOTEBOOK: A Collection of Data and Illustrations
1-211970
Most everyone recognizes a Gatling Gun today, but when the science of 'machine guns' was in its infancy, each improvement in design or firepower was hailed in the press.
These news reports were usually illustrated with line drawings and these 100-plus-year-old drawings make up the body of this notebook on the Gatling Gun, from 1863 when it first appeared, to 1917, when the last US government manual was printed for the Gatling.
Covered: 10 makers in five countries and the Gatling Guns that 29 countries tested or used in some 25 different calibers. Carriages, feed devices, cartridges, manuals, and implements are also described or pictured herein. Sales, inspectors and issues, some by serial number, are detailed for many purchases.
For the technically minded, extracts from relevant United States patents are included. Listings of all Richard Jordan Gatling's American patents and those patents that 'improved' upon his designs are also included. Includes 175 b/w illustrations.
