by edited by Taylor, Daniel
1-242400
After the Allied armies broke out from the Normandy bridgehead in late July 1944, the rapid northward advance sought to capture the channel ports of Le Havre and Boulogne. Hitler declared both to be a 'Festung' (Fortress) to be defended to the last man. Covers the battles to capture the ports, with both suffering German demolitions and Allied bombardments. Le Havre restarted port operations on October 2 and Boulogne on October 12. Both battles are illustrated with 'Then and Now' comparison photographs. The Capture of Le Havre: 76 black and white photos and The Capture of Boulogne: 80 black and white photos.
