Operation Neptune was the code word for the naval side of the historic June 1944 D-Day landings in Normandy. Massive in its scale, tasks were wide-ranging and varied, including beach reconnaissance, minesweeping, shore bombardment, and organization of loading, assembly, and disembarkation. Naval forces were also responsible for positioning two Mulberry artificial harbors and laying of the cross-channel fuel pipeline Pluto under the sea. Contains 24 pages of black and white photos.
