WITH THE ROYAL TANK REGIMENT IN KOREA: Centurions on the Hook

WITH THE ROYAL TANK REGIMENT IN KOREA: Centurions on the Hook
by Selway, Jim

1-249320

Offers a vivid account of experiences as a Royal Tank Regiment officer during the Korean War and Cold War. Relates a young officer's experiences from 1949 until his retirement from the army in 1959, initially as a Tank Troop Commander and later as B Squadron's 'Battle Captain'. Gives a rare and fascinating flavor into the life of an RTR officer. Part One discusses initial service and training in the Post-war British army, while Part Two describes how budgetary constraints and the challenges of the Cold War diluted the focus of the army from operational excellence with the requirement to maintain morale. Argues that the insistence on various values, particularly the retention of sporting traditions, helped overcome the disappointments and challenges of 'budget' soldiering in a peacetime army. Contains 200 mono illustrations.
