LA GUERRA DE GRANADA (II): The Siege of Malaga and Reconquest 1488-1492
1-666100
During the reign of Ferdinand and Isabella, a fleet of Castilian and Aragonese ships under a single command descended on the Malaga coast seeking a conclusion of the long process of reunification in the Iberian peninsula.
The siege of a place like Malaga, whose garrison was reinforced by Muslims arrived from North Africa, required the crusaders to close its port and devote a large army to surround the walled perimeter. The logistics work that led to victory was remarkable and included transportation by land and sea of the essential parts of artillery gunpowder coming aboard ships from Barcelona and Sicily.
The experience gained would be very useful during the harsh siege of Baza, which ended with the first snows of winter 1489. They were also years of raids and skirmishes, including Hernando del Pulgar's night raid in the capital of the Muslim emirate.
