TRAINING THE ROMAN CAVALRY: From Arrian's Ars Tactica

The author uses her experience as a horse trainer to expand on Arrian's 'Ars Tactica,' which originally had vivid descriptions of parade-ground training exercises. Analyzes all the Roman cavalry maneuvers, from charges to mounted javelin throwing, using firsthand experience in reconstructed conditions. Concentrates on showpieces exercises, but also focuses on selection of mounts, equipment used, and Arrian's understanding of equine physiology and psychology.
