1-210042 Anderson Thomas THE HISTORY OF THE PANZERWAFFE: Volume 2: 1942-45 The final years of World War II saw the legendary Panzerwaffe face its most difficult challenges, with Allied troops landing at Normandy and storming across the continent and the Russians gaining the upper hand on the Eastern Front. As Germany fought fiercely to hold on to the advantages gained in the early years, they relied heavily on the Panzer IV, the Panzer V Panther, and the StuG III to hold back their advancing opponents.

This second volume on the Panzerwaffe offers a comprehensive guide to the final years of Germany's most famous fighting force, covering the further use of the Panzer IV, the role played by the StuG III assault gun and the battlefield debut of the formidable Panther. Combat reports and rare archive photographs help uncover the final years of the panzers, including defense against the D-Day landings, the Ardennes Offensive, and the last stand in and around Berlin. 1 vol, 304 pgs 2015 UK, OSPREY PUBLISHING

1-217701 Anderson, Thomas THE HISTORY OF THE PANZERJAGER: Volume 1: Origins and Evolution 1939-42 The German Panzerjager, or Panzerjagertruppe, was one of the most innovative fighting arms of World War II and its story has never properly been told. Many books have focused on an element of the story - the Hetzer, Jagdpanzer, Jagdpanther - but this covers the development and organization of Nazi Germany's anti-tank force from its earliest origins in World War I, through its development in the interwar period, and its baptism of fire in the early days of World War II.

This is the first of two volumes that will trace the story through the glory years of Blitzkrieg and the improvements that were made when Soviet tanks were first encountered, leading to new weapons, tactics, and organization. It is packed with previously unpublished wartime photographs, combat reports, and detailed charts and statistics to give an unparalleled account of this unique arm of the Wehrmacht. 1 vol, 304 pgs 2018 UK, OSPREY PUBLISHING

1-225990 Anderson, Thomas PANZER IV Fully illustrated throughout with contemporary photographs, this fascinating study tells the complete story of Germany's most widely produced tank of World War II, from its design and development that started in 1934 to its many upgrades and variants. At first, German planners envisioned the tank in a secondary role, but during the invasions of The Low Countries and France, it took on a more central role.

When the Panzerwaffe turned east to attack the Soviet Union, the Panzer IV initially fared poorly against the better-armed T-34. However, upgrades to its gun and armour protection saw it perform far better, not only against Soviet armour but also against British and American tanks in North Africa and Italy. In 1944, it was slowly replaced by the Panzer V Panther, but the dire strategic situation meant that it bore the brunt of the Allied D-Day invasion and its aftermath, and it remained in service until the end of the war. 1 vol, 288 pgs 2020 UK, OSPREY PUBLISHING

1-229460 Anderson, Thomas PANZER III Details the history of the Panzer III throughout World War II, from its early development in the pre-war years, through its pivotal role in the Blitzkrieg campaigns in Poland and Western Europe, to its eventual obsolescence. Profusely illustrated.

The Panzer III was the mainstay of the German armoured forces in the early years of World War II and spearheaded the victories in Poland, Western Europe and the Balkans. Designed and developed in the mid-1930s, it was originally equipped with a 3.7cm gun and with 30mm-thick armour. Early combat in Poland and France saw the need for this to be upgraded, and later models were armed with a 5cm KwK L/42 gun and had the frontal armour reinforced to 60mm by adding extra plating. This later version proved to be particularly effective during the campaigns in the Balkans and against British armour in the North African desert campaign. However, in the first months of Operation Barbarossa - the German invasion of the Soviet Union - it became obvious to battlefield commanders that the Panzer III had become obsolete as a main battle tank and it began to be replaced by the Panzer IV as the main front-line battle tank.

The Panzer III was relegated to a secondary role, but its chassis proved the basis for the Sturmgeschutz III, which became the most widespread German armoured vehicle of World War II.

1-236420 Anderson, Thomas PANZER RECONNAISSANCE Draws on first-hand accounts and rare and previously unseen photographs in this comprehensive and fully-illustrated study of the Panzer reconnaissance troops, the crucial eyes and ears of the German armoured forces of World War II.

Equipped with a mixture of armoured cars and motorcycles, the motorized reconnaissance battalions (Aufklarungs-Abteilungen) often operated far ahead of battlefront to survey the terrain, observe enemy positions, and identify enemy forces - key information required ahead of any armoured assault. In the second half of the war, with Germany on the strategic defensive, armoured reconnaissance troops found themselves increasingly drawn into combat operations, and even holding sectors of the line. At the same time, more modern equipment was introduced with motorcycles phased out and purpose-built armoured personnel carriers (Schutzenpanzerwagen) introduced. 1 vol, 288 pgs 2023 UK, OSPREY PUBLISHING

1-237180 Andrews, William TANK GUN SYSTEMS: The First Thirty Years, 1916-1945: A Technical Examination Describes and examines the main gun systems of medium and heavy tanks from first use in 1916 in World War I to those fielded in numbers to the end of World War II in 1945, including tanks of the interwar period. Specifically considered are more than 100 guns of a caliber greater than 35 mm. The emphasis is on guns mounted in turrets on heavier tracked armored fighting vehicles (greater than 15 tons) which were considered tanks. There are, though, exceptions: the naval 6 pounder guns in First World War British tanks, as well as the 75 mm guns in French medium tanks of the same period (all turretless).

The treatment of gun systems includes sighting and fire control equipment, gun laying equipment, mounts and the array of munitions fired, as well as the actual gun, including its, barrel, cradle, breech, firing mechanism, sights and recoil system. Related to this are issues of gun handling (loading and unloading), ammunition design and rates of fire. Also examined are the maximum impulse and energy generated by firing some of the munitions available that must be absorbed by the gun recoil system. 1 vol, 576 pgs 2023 UK, PEN & SWORD

The book begins with a summary of the highly effective 'Panzertaktiks' and tactical organizations that Germany developed prior to WWII. This involved combined all-arms cooperation, as well as components like reconnaissance, combat engineers, artillery and air support. The written introduction also summarizes the important elements of German command and control (C2) and logistics.

The work then proceeds to a dazzling array of black and white photos of vehicles in action. The range of vehicles is extraordinary - including the Sd.Kfz.222, Sd.Kfz.231, Sd.Kfz.232, Sd.Kfz.234, Hetzer, Panzer I, Panzer II, Panzer III, StuG III, Panzer IV, Jagdpanzer IV, Panther, Jagdpanther, Tiger I, and Elefant. This list is not exhaustive but it does indicate the gamut of vehicle types featured in these pages. Each photo is accompanied by a detailed caption providing pertinent information regarding vehicle types, units and locations.

In the center of the book are 16 color plates by the accomplished illustrator Laurent Lecocq. These plates provide sample camouflage schemes and markings in full color. This is a well-written and well-illustrated book that will provide modelers and enthusiasts with much inspiration and information respectively. It's a fine companion to the four previous volumes in the Panzer Vor! series. 1 vol, 72 pgs 2011 HONG KONG, CONCORD PUBS

This volume begins with a concise summary of Operation Barbarossa, the massive invasion of the Soviet Union that kicked off on 22 June 1941. It describes the main panzer corps and divisions involved in this assault deep into the Russian heartland, one that reached right to the gates of Moscow before being thwarted. The fascinating collection of photos isn't confined to the above operation or time period, as the images span all the way from 1939 through to 1945.

The range of vehicles is extraordinary coverage includes the Panzer I, Panzer II, Panzer III, StuG III, Panzer IV, Panther, and Tiger I. There is also a liberal assortment of tank destroyers (e.g. Marder, Nashorn and Jagdtiger), 4x4 and 8x8 armored cars and a number of halftrack types featured within the covers. Highly detailed captions accompany each picture, highlighting features of production variants and units that specific vehicles belong to.

In the center of the book are 16 color plates by the accomplished illustrator Laurent Lecocq, and these offer sample camouflage schemes and markings from throughout the war period. The book opens with a precis of the Germany tank industry before and during the war. This summary describes how the nation's arms industry was resurrected in the 1920-30s, and how it sought to provide the materiel and vehicles needed to feed Germany's insatiable war machine. Despite many restrictions and hurdles, German industry did surprisingly well in producing such a wide range of armored fighting vehicles up till the end of the war. These efforts are reflected in a fascinating array of photos showing military vehicles in action. The range of photography is extraordinary - it includes the Panzer I, Panzer II, Panzer Ill, StuG III, Panzer IV, Panther and Tiger I, for example. There are also artillery pieces and a number of half-tracks featured within the covers. Readers will find very useful the highly detailed captions that accompany each picture.

De Sisto continues his longstanding collaboration with accomplished illustrator Laurent Lecocq. In the center of the book are 16 color plates by Lecocq, and these offer sample camouflage schemes and markings. 1-218870 Diamond, Jon BEYOND ROME TO THE ALPS: Images of War Series Rome was liberated on 5 June 1944 but the Italian campaign had another eleven grueling months to run. The US Fifth and British Eighth Armies drove across the Arno River, capturing Florence on 5 August. Once again The Wehrmacht's 10th and 14th Armies eluded destruction, withdrawing into the Gothic Line in the Northern Apennines. The Eighth Army, advancing along the Adriatic coast and the Fifth Army in the mountains north of Florence penetrated this strong German defensive belt between 25 August and the end of September. Yet the Allied campaign stalled due to a lethal combination of supply and manpower shortages, the early onset of winter and the rugged terrain favoring the German defenders. The Allied April spring offensive saw Eighth Army breakthrough the Argenta Gap into the Po Valley, while Fifth Army captured Bologna. After crossing the Po River the Allies fanned out across Northern Italy, before the Nazi surrender on 3 May 1945. Includes 250 black and white illustrations. 1 vol, 224 pgs 2018 UK, PEN & SWORD

1-205215 Doyle, David GERMAN PANZER I: German Army's WWII Early Light Tank Visual History Clandestinely developed during the post WWI-era during which Germany was forbidden from developing, producing or owning armored combat vehicles, the Panzer I served as a proof of concept. Manufacturers and engineers became acquainted with the creation of modern fully tracked combat vehicles and soldiers were familiarized with the driving, maintenance, logistics entailed by fielding an armored force.

Once war began, not only did these experiences prove invaluable, the tanks themselves, armed only with twin machine guns, nevertheless proved formidable weapons against ill-prepared enemies.

Spread through 168 hardbound pages, over 200 photos document all variations of this, the cornerstone upon which Germany's famed panzer force was built. As a special bonus, this title includes a 16-page-color walk around section featuring very rare examples of the Panzer IA, B and F. 1 vol, 168 pgs 2016 US, AMPERSAND PUBLISHING

1-205221 Doyle, David GERMAN MOTORCYCLES: WWII Visual History The Germans developed and used the motorcycle as an instrument of offensive warfare, perhaps more than any other nation in WWII. The major tasks of these units were mopping-up for the following troops and employment as an advance guard, surprise raid-like attacks against an opponent's flanks and rear, as well as pursuit of the opponent. A wide variety of machines were deployed for these tasks, both impressed and adapted civilian models, as well as variety of purpose-built military motorcycles.

This distinctive reference combines rare vintage photographs with photos of superbly restored German WWII motorcycles. The first of a multi-part series on the subject, this volume features large, full-color detail photos of the BMW R4; R12; R35; R71; R74 and Zundapp KS750. 1-205222 Doyle, David M10/ACHILLES: Visual History In late 1941, the concept of a separate tank destroyer force began to jell. This force would be armed with specialized weapons. While the army's primary antitank weapons of the late 1930s were 37mm towed anti-tank guns, these were soon deemed to be inadequate against enemy armor. Accordingly, the quest for larger weapons began, as did the desire for a self-propelled antitank gun, or Gun Motor Carriage.

The initial efforts, which involved adapting 3/4-ton, Dodge trucks to mount antitank weapons (the M6, nee WC-55), which were intended as interim and training vehicles. In the same manner, half-tracks were fitted with cannon, yielding the M3 75mm Gun Motor Carriage. But, the quest was on to create a specialized and ideal tank destroyer, utilizing a tank chassis as the basis.

By January of 1942 a prototype was in the works to mount the weapon in an open topped turret on the chassis of the twin GM Diesel-powered M4A2 Sherman Medium tank. After some months of development a design was finalized for a vehicle sharing the suspension, lower hull, and engine with the M4A2 but with an upper hull made up from thinner, but sloping, armored plate. Initially designated T35E1, when the design was standardized it was redesignated M10. In addition to the 6,700-plus Diesel-powered M10 tank destroyers, a further 1,700 M10A1 vehicles were built, these being driven by Ford GAA gasoline engines.

While the 3-inch weapon of the M10 was superior to that found on earlier U.S. tank destroyers, it was inadequate against the ever-increasing weight of German armor. The British addressed this by rearming some of the 1,700 M10s that they received with the superb Ordnance Quick Firing 17-pounder antitank gun. These vehicles were designated by the British as 17-pdr. SP M10 Mark 1c. After the war the name Achilles was given these vehicles. 1 vol, 168 pgs 2016 US, AMPERSAND PUBLISHING

Drawing on the lessons learned in Vietnam, the Bradley was built to provide a highly mobile platform from which infantry could be inserted into the battlefield, and from which the infantry could operate. Its use soon expanded to that of a scout vehicle with anti-tank capability. 1-219400 Doyle, David M12 GUN MOTOR CARRIAGE: Images of War Series Although only 100 examples were produced, the 155mm Gun Motor Carriage M12 served with distinction as an infantry-support weapon and in particular as a bunker-buster during the US assault on the Siegfried Line in the winter of 1944-45.

The ability to rapidly ready heavy artillery for firing lead to the development of the M12 155mm gun in 1941, based on the M3 Medium Tank chassis. The trial vehicle, built by Rock Island Arsenal, was designated T6. To accommodate the large, rear mounted weapon - a French-made M1917 155mm gun, the engine was relocated forward to a position just behind the driving compartment. A hydraulically operated spade mounted at the rear of the vehicle was lowered during firing to anchor the vehicle against the recoil. When retracted into the traveling position it provided a seat for two of the six crewmen.

The production run was between September 1942 and March 1943, with a total of 100 units built. Though a few were used by training units, most were placed in storage until February 1944, when the first of 74 of them were shipped to Baldwin Locomotive Works to be improved based on further tests and usage in training. This work continued until May 1944.

Three slightly different WWI surplus weapons were mounted depending upon availability, the M1917, the M1917A1 and the M1918M1. The M1917 was French built, the M1918 was US built, and the M1917A1 had the French gun tube, and the US breech.

The M12 would earn the nickname 'Door Knocker' for its pounding of the German Siegfried Line. 1 vol, 152 pgs 2018 UK, PEN & SWORD

1-214630 Fletcher, David BRITISH BATTLE TANKS: British-Made Tanks of World War II Second of a multi-volume history of British tanks.

Plagued by unreliable vehicles and poorly thought-out doctrine, the early years of World War II were years of struggle for Britain's tank corps. Relying on tanks built in the late 1930s, and those designed and built with limited resources in the opening years of the war, they battled valiantly against an opponent well versed in the arts of armored warfare.

This book covers the development and use of the Matilda, Crusader, and Valentine tanks that pushed back the Axis in North Africa, the much-improved Churchill that fought with distinction from North Africa to Normandy, and the excellent Cromwell tank of 1944-45. It also looks at Britain's super-heavy tank projects, the TOG1 and TOG2, and the Tortoise heavy assault tank, designed to smash through the toughest of battlefield conditions, but never put into production. 1 vol, 280 pgs 2017 UK, OSPREY PUBLISHING

1-217690 Fletcher, David and Zaolga, Steven BRITISH BATTLE TANKS: American-Made World War II Tanks The idea of British soldiers using American tanks was not viewed with a great deal of enthusiasm by the British Army. They perceived American tanks as being crudely made, mechanically unsophisticated, and impossible to fight in. However, once British crews got used to them and learned to cope with some of their difficulties, such as limited fuel capacity and unfamiliar fighting techniques, they started to see them in a far more positive light, in particular their innate reliability and simplicity of maintenance.

This book, the last in a three-part series, concentrates on World War II and studies American tanks in British service, some of which were modified in ways peculiar to the British. It shows how the number of these tanks increased to the point that they virtually dominated, as well describing some types, such as the T14 and M26 Pershing, which were supplied but never used in British service. 1 vol, 256 pgs 2018 UK, OSPREY PUBLISHING

1-243050 Flores, Santiago GENESIS, EMPLOYMENT, AFTERMATH: First World War Tanks and the New Warfare 1900-1945 Collection of essays reconsiders the history of WWI tanks by widening the historical perspective beyond Britain to include France and Germany and by reflecting on the pre-1914 and post-1918 history of tanks. The employment of the first tanks by the British Army on the Western Front in September 1916, although symbolic rather than decisive in its effects, ushered in a new form of warfare - tank warfare. Includes 10 b/w photos, 10 maps, and diagrams.

Based on painstaking research in archives across Europe, each of the chapters sheds new light on different aspects of the history of First World tanks. Two chapters consider why the Germans failed to recognize the possibilities of the tank and why they were so slow to develop their own machines after the first British tank attack in 1916. Two other chapters chart the history of French tanks on the Western Front and after the end of the war.

Tank communication, the employment of British tanks on the Western Front, as well as the activities of British Tank Corps intelligence, are also explained. The use of British tanks in Palestine and in the Russian Civil War is examined in detail for the first time. The volume also reflects on the impact of the Battle of Cambrai, both in terms of its psychological impact in Britain and the power it exerted over military debates until the end of the WWII. 1 vol, 256 pgs 2024 UK, HELION AND COMPANY

1-202490 Fortin, Ludovic BRITISH TANKS IN NORMANDY A detailed account of the Normandy campaign fought by the British Armored Divisions and independent Armored Brigades, from the D-Day landing to Operation Goodwood. The Author - a dedicated specialist of British armor - has divided his work into three parts: the units involved, the AFVs fielded in Normandy, and the doctrine of use of the High Command with its actual effect on the battlefield.

Equipped in some cases with obsolescent vehicles, their personnel often under-motivated but sometimes inventive, the British tank formations did not always answer to the hopes of the Allied military planners. This book gives a fresh view on the whole question. 1 vol, 160 pgs 2012

1-239340 Foss, Christopher The Encyclopedia of Tanks and Armoured Fighting Vehicles The Encyclopedia of Tanks and Armored Fighting Vehicles is a definitive guide to over 1500 armored vehicles that have emerged from the first gasoline engine to the present day. In 1916, during World War I, the tank made its debut on the Western Front for the British, and the face of warfare changed almost overnight. In each nation's quest for battlefield dominance, many different types of armored vehicles have been produced, some more successful than others, all of which are covered in the encyclopedia, with each entry being accompanied by a photograph or artwork, full specifications and a development and career history.

The book is divided into sections by country, with entries arranged chronologically. A detailed index is provided for easy cross-referencing. Just two prototypes of this monster were delivered, for its undeniable advantages-tremendous firepower and virtually impenetrable armor-were outweighed by the disadvantages of its slowness, excessive use of materials in construction, and fuel consumption so high that it was, by that time, far beyond the Germans' ability to supply. 1-205360 Green, Michael AMERICAN TANKS & AFVs OF WORLD WAR II Stuart, Sherman, Lee, and Grant tanks dominated the US Army and Marine Corps armored warfare effort versus Nazi Germany and Tojo's Japan. This book details the full range of these vehicles, giving technical specifications and development features as well as describing how they were manned and fought in battle.

American industrial might was on full display during WWII. The US built 88,140 tanks between 1939 and 1945, or about twice that of Germany and Great Britain combined during the same period. These tanks also saw service with many allied armies.

In addition to the 18,620 tank-based variants, such as armored engineering vehicles, self-propelled artillery, armored recovery vehicles, and tank destroyers, American factories went on to design and build thousands of wheeled armored cars for reconnaissance purposes and armored half-tracks to transport the infantry into battle behind the tanks. Like the tanks, American armored half-tracks were modified to serve a wide variety of jobs including self-propelled artillery, tank destroyers and antiaircraft vehicles. So useful were these vehicles that they would remain in service with foreign armies for decades after World War II.

To complement its inventory of tanks and armored fighting vehicles the American military industrial complex also designed and built over 18,000 amphibian tractors. Appearing in both unarmored and armored variants they went into combat with a wide variety of armaments. Referred to as the Landing Vehicle Tracked (LVT) they would serve not only with the US Marine Corps who often called them Amtracs but the US Army who referred to them as the Water Buffalo. They would allow the American military to take the fight to the far flung Japanese Empire across vast reaches of the Pacific Area of Operations. 1 vol, 0 pgs 2014 UK, OSPREY PUBLISHING

1-215470 Green, Michael AXIS TANKS OF THE SECOND WORLD WAR: Images of War series The German Army used tanks to devastating effect in their Blitzkrieg campaigns during the early years of the Second World War and in the intense defensive battles leading up to final defeat in 1945. Includes 250 color and black and white illustrations. It may be a surprise to many that the Japanese Army had more tanks than Nazi Germany in 1938; these included the Type 95 light tank and the Type 89 and 97 medium tanks. Co-belligerents in the Axis Alliance that built their own tanks included Italy, Romania and Hungary. The latter was responsible for the Toldi and Turan light tank series.

As can be seen from the descriptions and images in this classic Images of War series work, the Axis powers had drawn on British and, in some cases, French design for their tanks in the period leading up to the Second World War: the Carden-Loyd tankette suspension was used in the Panzer 1 series and the light Italian and Japanese tanks. German engineering talent resulted in the original and ingenious designs of the Panzer II, III and IV series and, later in the War, the Panther Medium and Tiger heavy tanks. 1 vol, 216 pgs 2017 UK, PEN & SWORD

1-219200 Green, Michael UNITES STATES ARMY ARMORED DIVISIONS OF THE SECOND WORLD WAR: Images of War Series Includes 250 color & black and white images.

The routing of the British and French Armies in May and June 1940 by the Wehrmacht's armored divisions caused a major rethink by the US Army's senior leadership. The result was the formation of the two armored divisions in July 1940; the first named 'Old Ironside' and second designated 'Hell on Wheels'.

In 1941, a further three armored divisions were created; the third (Spearhead), the fourth (remained unnamed) and the fifth called 'Victory'. The following year seven more were created, the sixth, seventh, eighth, ninth, tenth, eleventh and twelfth. The final two armored divisions formed in 1943 numbered the sixteenth and twentieth. All but one of these powerful formations went on to see service in the European Theater of Operation (ETO); the exception being the 1st Armored Division that served in North Africa, Sicily and Italy. 1 vol, 224 pgs 2018 UK, PEN & SWORD

1-222750 Griffin, Robert M48 PATTON: American Cold War Battle Tank The M48 Patton main battle tank was one of the most successful and longest-serving designs produced in the United States, and it is a popular subject with tank modelers and enthusiasts. When it came into service in 1949 it represented a significant advance on the Sherman and M47 which it replaced, and it formed the backbone of American armored forces during the early years of the Cold War. It also saw combat in Vietnam, during the Indo-Pakistan wars and in the Middle East, in particular during the Iran-Iraq War. So it is an fascinating subject for this volume in the TankCraft series. 200 color & black and white illustrations

Archive photos of the M48 in service and extensively researched color profile illustrations depict the tank throughout its operational life. A large part of the book showcases available model kits and aftermarket products, complemented by a gallery of beautifully constructed and painted models in various scales. 1-197970 Hadacek, Jerome THE ART OF THE JEEP: From Propaganda to Advertising Approximately 350 illustrations. The Jeep, despite its small engine and public underestimation, represents the most well known example of an American manufacturer's success at making the transition from war propaganda to mainstream popular advertising.

Made famous by the appearance of a few articles, images of the Jeep could be found everywhere: on stationary, match boxes, playing cards, and appeared to invade America and then the world. The firm Willys further strengthened the phenomenon by inundating the press with large format color advertisements in order to compete with Bantam, the original maker of the engine. While the group was in reality too small to tackle both the demand of this project and the needs of their major client Ford, Willys was nevertheless able to dominate the publicity about the all terrain vehicle by devoting excellent illustrators to the job. Given the firm's success, the image of the Jeep was thus highly exploited and used in other campaigns advertising the promotion of other products, personnel recruitment, as well as a variety of other items.

Organized by product, Hadacek's work gathers together a superb collection of illustrations and material, retracing an entire period focused on a vehicle that initially went unnoticed but quickly became a major symbol of post-war ingenuity.

Jerome Hadacek is modeler specializing in 1/48 and 1/10 scale recreations. He is particularly fond of working on tanks and the jeep. He has published numerous articles in Steel Masters, Tank Zone and 4x4 Story, on various themes regarding military vehicles based off of reports from military museums throughout the world, technical documentation, and various related events. 1 vol, 160 pgs 2012 FRANCE, HISTOIRE & COLLECTIONS

POSTWAR ARTILLERY: 1945 to Present The Essential Weapons Identification Guide: Postwar Artillery 1945-present offers an highly-illustrated guide to the world's main artillery units and their weapons used since the end of World War II. This compact volume includes sample unit structures and orders of battle from divisional to corps and army level, providing an organizational context for key wars fought since 1945.

Organized chronologically, the book is a comprehensive survey of units and their artillery weapons by war, including Korea, Vietnam, the Arab-Israeli conflicts, Indo-Pakistan wars, the cold war in Europe, Yugoslav civil war, the Iraq wars and Afghanistan. All the major guns, missiles and mortar types are featured, with both towed and self-propelled artillery, for example, as well as anti-tank, anti-aircraft, and other infantry support weapons.

Less conventional forms of artillery are also included, including tactical and strategic missile systems, all combining to make this a rounded compendium of modern artillery weapons as used by the world's armed forces. Packed with more than 200 full-color artworks and photographs with exhaustive specifications, The Essential Weapons Identification Guide: Postwar Artillery 1945-present is a key reference guide for military modelers and artillery enthusiasts.

1-222350 Healy, Mark STUG III: Sturmgeschutz III Ausfuhrung A to G (SdKfz 142) The German Sturmgeschutz series of assault guns was a successful and cost-effective range of armored fighting vehicles; of which some 10,000 were built during WWII. Based on the chassis of the Panzer III tank; the turret was replaced by an armored fixed superstructure fitted with a more powerful 7.5cm StuK 40 L/48 gun. Originally intended as a mobile assault weapon for infantry support; the StuG was constantly modified and saw extensive use on all battlefronts as an assault gun and tank destroyer. Its fixed superstructure with limited-traverse mounting for the main armament was simpler and cheaper to build than the turret of the battle tank; plus its low height meant it was easy to camouflage and conceal. Towards the end of the war; more StuGs were built than tanks.

StuGs also saw combat when used by several Axis allies; notably Romania and Finland. They were also exported to Bulgaria, Hungary, Italy, and Spain. The Soviet Union gave some of their captured German vehicles to Syria in the 1950s, which continued to use them up until the War over Water against Israel in the mid-1960s. By the time of the Arab-Israeli Six-Day War in 1967; all of them had been either destroyed, stripped for spare parts, or placed on the Golan Heights as static pillboxes. 1 vol, 192 pgs 2018 UK, HAYNES PUBLISHING

1-SS27024 Hughes, Chris M41 WALKER BULLDOG Walk Around The standard US light tank during the early years of the Cold War, the M41 Bulldog was developed as a more powerful successor to the M24 Chaffee. Named for General Walton Walker who died in a Jeep accident in Korea, the Walker Bulldog was maneuverable and well armed. It was, however, rushed to the battlefield to counter North Korea's Soviet built T-34s before all its own kinks had been worked out.

Accordingly a number of Bulldog variants were developed over the years in an effort to overcome initial deficiencies. In 1953 a hydraulic turret traverse replaced the initial electrical traverse and in 1956, fuel injection was introduced. The US Army began phasing out the Bulldog at the end of the 1960s, but the rugged vehicle has served more than 20 other countries and continues to operate in several armies around the world to this day.

The detailed photographs that pack this volume offer readers a detailed look at all the facets of the M41, inside and out. In addition to comprehensive images of the outside of the Bulldog, five pages cover the engine compartment alone, while images of the interior of vehicle and turret fill 25 pages. Illustrated with 250 photographs plus color profiles and numerous detailed line drawings. 1 vol, 80 pgs 2011 US, SQUADRON/SIGNAL

1-227090 Kinnear, James SOVIET T-62 MAIN BATTLE TANK The T-62 is one of the most widespread tanks used by the Soviets during the Cold War. Developed from the T-55, the T-62 enjoyed a long career in the Red Army and even into the early days of the reformed Russian Army. It was the principal tank used by Soviet forces in the Soviet-Afghan War, and went on to see service with Russian forces in Chechnya and South Ossetia. It has also been employed in almost every conflict in the Middle East and Africa from its introduction into service. It remains in service with many countries throughout the world and has seen a great deal of use in the Syrian Civil War. Written by two experts on Soviet armour, it contains more than 400 stunning contemporary and modern photographs. 1 vol, 224 pgs 2021 UK, OSPREY PUBLISHING

1-214140 Kinnear, James and Sewell, Stephen SOVIET T-10 HEAVY TANK AND VARIANTS When it was introduced into service in 1953, the T-10 represented a return to the classic Soviet heavy tank. Although considered a major threat to NATO tank forces, it also represented the end of an era. All gun-heavy tanks like the T-10 would eventually be made effectively redundant by later models like the T-62, which had powerful next-generation armament and new ammunition types. The T-10 was gradually withdrawn from service in the 1970s, though the last tanks would only leave Russian service, by decree of the President of the Russian Federation, in 1997. As such the T-10 outlived the Soviet state that had created it.

Never exported outside of the Soviet Union and rarely used in combat, the T-10 has remained a mysterious tank, with many of its variants unknown in the West until very recently. This study, written from original Russian and Ukrainian primary source documents that have only recently been made available, uncovers the history of this enigmatic tank using 130 stunning contemporary and modern photographs of the T-10 as well as full color side-view artwork. 1 vol, 232 pgs 2017 UK, OSPREY PUBLISHING

1-223310 Lister, David The Dark Age of Tanks - Britain's Lost Armour, 1945-1970 In the thirty years after the Second World War, the British army entered a period of intense technological development. Due to the lack of surviving documentation, this period is almost a second Dark Age. What survives shows the British Army's struggle to use cutting edge technology to create weapons that could crush the Soviet Union's armed forces, all the while fighting against the demands of Her Majesty's Treasury. 50 black and white illustrations

On this journey, the Army entertained ideas such as micro-tanks of about 20 tons in weight with two-man crews, massive 183mm anti-tank guns, devastating rocket artillery, colossal anti-tank guided missiles and ended up on the cusp of building hover tanks.

This book takes a look at the records from a time period of increasing importance to the tank historian and starts the process of illuminating the dark age of British tanks.

1-213350 Malmassari, Paul ARMOURED TRAINS: An Illustrated Encyclopedia 1825-2016 Oversized at 9.5x11.25 inches, this completely revised and expanded edition since its French publication covers armored trains 1825-2016.

Military forces around the world were quick to see the advantages of railways in warfare, whether for the rapid deployment of men or the movement of heavy equipment like artillery. From this realization, it was a short step to making the train a potent weapon in its own right -- a mobile fort or a battleship on rails. Armed and armored, they became the first practical self-propelled war machines. As demonstrated in the American Civil War, these trains were able to make a significant contribution to battlefield success.

Thereafter, almost every belligerent nation with a railway system made some use of armored rolling stock, ranging from low-intensity colonial policing to the massive employment of armored trains during the Russian Civil War. Although they were somewhat eclipsed as front-line weapons by the development of the tank and other armored fighting vehicles, armored trains retained a role as late as the civil wars in the former republic of Yugoslavia.

Covers the range of fighting equipment that rode the rails country by country. Includes a vast array of photographs and the author's meticulous drawings. 1 vol, 528 pgs 2016 US, NAVAL INSTITUTE PRESS

1-SS5719 Mesko, Jim WALK AROUND: M5 Stuart The light M5 Stuart tank was a much-upgraded version of the M3 Stuart. Named for Confederate General J.E.B. Stuart, the Stuarts filled the need for a light tank and, in addition to the US, they were supplied to Allied military forces. The leap from the M3 to the M5 Stuart took place in 1941, when the US Ordnance Department accepted a proposal by Cadillac to install double Cadillac V8 engines in the tank and, after remodeling the hull to accommodate the new motors, a new tank, the M5, was born. Reconnaissance units in the front lines of US forces were always accompanied by the agile M5s. With a top speed of 45 miles per hour, armor protection, and firepower, the M5A1 provided powerful support. Though not a match for heavy German armor, the Stuart was more than adequate for dealing with infantry. In addition to the US military, M5s were supplied to Britain, the Soviet Union, and France. After WWII, the Stuart saw action in such far-flung places as China, India, and Indochina. 1-207550 Ogorkiewicz, Richard TANKS A detailed, analytical, and comprehensive account of the worldwide evolution of tanks, from their inception a century ago to the present day. With new ideas stemming from the latest academic research, this study presents a reappraisal of the development of tanks and their evolution during World War I and how the surge in technological development during World War II and the subsequent Cold War drove tank developments in Europe and America, transforming tanks into fast, resilient and powerful fighting machines.

From the primitive, bizarre-looking Mark V to the Matilda and from the menacing King Tiger to the superlative M1 Abrams, Professor Ogorkiewicz shows how tanks gradually acquired the enhanced capabilities that enabled them to become what they are today: the core of combined-arms, mechanized warfare. 1 vol, 288 pgs 2015 UK, OSPREY PUBLISHING

1-200982 Oliver, Dennis STUG: Assault Gun Units In The East - Bagration To Berlin Vol. 2 The second and final part of STUG: Assault Gun Units in the East. Volume 1 covered the independent StuG Battalions and the Panzerjaeger companies attached to Infantry divisions equipped with the StuG III and IV. In this book, Vol. 2 examines the units of the Waffen SS, the Luftwaffe and the Panzer divisions - some of which contained mixed battalions of tanks and assault guns. We have also had the assistance of Professor Yuri Shepelev who has been able to access the photo resources of the St Petersburg State Archive.

This book is based on our usual format of 13 full color pages featuring over 30 different vehicles, highlighting the colors and field modifications that make these late-war assault guns so interesting. The illustrations are complemented by black and white archive photographs and we've been lucky to have the help of Dr. Yuri Shepelev and his contacts at the Saint Petersburg archive in Russia to help out here. 1-209361 Oliver, Dennis PANTHER: Panther and Jagdpanther Tank Units in the East - Bagration To Berlin Vol. I In the battles to hold the Eastern Front, the Panther tank was perhaps the most important weapon in the Wehrmacht's arsenal. Desperately switched from one crisis-point to the next, the Panther battalions of the Heer, Waffen-SS, and the Luftwaffe were able to blunt the Red Army's spearheads time and again and in 1944 the Panther's body was used to create the Jagdpanther tank destroyer. This 10th book in ADH's Firefly Collection -- and the first in a series -- examines these deservedly famous tanks and their crews.

1-198720 Pignato, N AUTOMITRAGLIATRICI MOTOMITRAGLIATRICI ARMORED AND THE GREAT WAR During the First World War the Italian army was not able to send out, for the limited possibilities for industry and the lack of cooperation of the Allies, 'tanks' that had appeared in Flanders since September 1916. However, the Supreme Command was able to field a small group of armored automitragliatrici on the Isonzo between 1915 and 1916. Others were prepared in late 1917, and after the retreat on the Piave were used both to counter the Austrian offensive in June at Vittorio Veneto.

The volume traces its troubled history, along with that short of motomitragliatrici departments created in the summer of 1918. The author, after having dwelt on technical developments of the machine Ansaldo, also recalls the studies of numerous patents and inventors. Outclassed and outdated, the T-35A tried to hold its own against the German invaders to no avail. Very little is known about these strange vehicles, beyond their basic shape and photographs of them on parade grounds and battlefields. Battlefield photographs have been cross-referenced with maps and documents to bring about a complete look at the T-35A in WWII. 1-208760 Ribinson, M.P. CHAR LECLERC The Leclerc is the only battle tank serving in operational combat units in the French Army. Designed as a Cold War era tank killer that could take on numerically superior enemies, the Leclerc has served the armies of France and the United Arab Emirates for over twenty years. Since 1989 when the first Leclerc prototype appeared, it has been counted amongst the world's most complex and deadly AFVs.

Despite its fame, relatively little has appeared on the Leclerc in English, and much of the information about the Leclerc on the web is incorrect. Even in French, it has been ten years since the Leclerc was studied in a published work. 313 photographs, 10 painting schemes.

Char Leclerc by MP Robinson and Thierry Guillemain is a survey of the Leclerc's development and service in the French Army right up to the present day. It explains the differences between the eleven Leclerc production batches produced for the French Army, the different Leclerc derived vehicles, and the changes that have transformed the French armored force since the Leclerc first entered service.

This latest addition to the Kagero Photosniper series is illustrated with over 220 unpublished photographs and ten color plates, making it an ideal reference for historians and modelers alike. 1 vol, 96 pgs 2015 POLAND, KAGERO

WWII accelerated their efforts, but conventional aircraft limited use to existing airfields, negating the effect. Development shifted to gliders and the 28th Airborne Tank Battalion was born. 1-219930 Robinson, M P THE AMX 13 LIGHT TANK: Images of War series The AMX 13 was originally designed in the immediate aftermath of the Second World War. It represents French ambitions for national resurgence and withdrawal from wartime dependence on American military technology. Includes 250 color and black and white illustrations.

Being a light tank, it was an ambitious and far sighted departure from conventional tank design and it found a ready export market as well as being a critical part in the French Army arsenal. Its basic hull design lent itself to the development of a vast list of variants.

French designers progressively modernized, and indeed reinvented, the AMX13 and enabled it to claim to be one of the most successful armored vehicle programs of the postwar period. It proved its worth in numerous small wars worldwide in the service of many countries.

This, the first commercially published work on the AMX13 in English, examines in detail the technical industrial and tactical story of this remarkably successful armored fighting vehicle. 1 vol, 248 pgs 2019 UK, PEN & SWORD

In this first work of a two-volume study examining the history of the AMX-30 battle tank, Robinson describes the development and introduction to service of this long serving weapon system.

Photographic coverage in Volume 1 is focused on the AMX-30B gun tank, its service life and the supporting vehicles that served alongside it in the Arme Blindee Cavalerie in the 1960s, 1970s, 1980s, and 1990s. CHALLENGER 2: The British Main Battle Tank - Images of war series For much of the Cold War, the British Army's main battle tanks (MBT) were first the Centurion and then the Chieftain. The question of the latter's replacement became urgent when in 1980 MBT80 was canceled. While the Royal Ordnance Challenger (originally the Shir 2) was acquired as a stop gap its design and capability limitations quickly became apparent. 250 color & black and white illustrations

Vickers then took over the Royal Ordnance tank building facility and against stiff foreign competition developed the Challenger 2.

This superbly illustrated book tells the story of the evolution and subsequent successful career of Challenger 2 which has seen distinguished service in war and peace since 1990 and has proved itself one of the worlds most formidable fighting vehicles. 1-229490 Salmon, Roger EVERYTHING WORKED LIKE CLOCKWORK: The Mechanization of British Regular and Household Cavalry 1918-1942 Hardback edition.

Describes the process of retraining British and Household cavalry regiments from post-WWI to 1942 to fight in armored vehicles. Relies heavily on regimental and War Office archives, the historical papers of the tank manufacturer Vickers, Britain by Mass Observation archives, the Imperial War Museum's oral history archives, and interviews with the small number of remaining WWII veterans.

This book checks the accuracy of the assertion that the delay in mechanization was due to reluctance by the cavalrymen to part with their horses and their technophobic attitude. Includes the backdrop of the social, economic and political climate of the 1920s and 1930s, and the pressure on politicians from the wider franchise and public opinion.

The 141 (The Buffs) Regiment RAC had been converted to Churchill Tanks at the end of 1941, and in early 1944, they were earmarked for another change of role to the Crocodile conversion of the new Mk VII Churchill tank. This flame throwing system was secret and started to arrive with the regiment in April 1944. Other chapters deal with crew training and specific tactical aspects to employ such a heavy tank under all fighting conditions.

Further aspects are covered, such as the protection level of the Tiger and reasons for losses - as well as propaganda work with this famous beast. Due to the usage of more than 1200 photos and drawings, even complex crew tasks and procedures are illustrated in a way that non-Tiger crewmen will be able to comprehend. 1 vol, 520 pgs 2017 UK, HELION & COMPANY

1-210150 Stokes, Neil SU-85 and SU-100 ON THE BATTLEFIELD The SU-85 and SU-100 self-propelled guns were based on the proven chassis of the T-34 Medium Tank, and were used primarily in the antitank role. From mid-1943 onward, the SU-85 gave the Soviet forces a useful tank destroyer with a significant firepower advantage over the T-34's 76.2mm gun. With the introduction of the T-34/85 in early 1944, the SU-85 design was upgraded with a 100mm gun to retain its firepower advantage, though a shortage of 100mm guns led to a number of improved hulls being armed with 85mm guns as the SU-85M. This book provides a pictorial history of the development and combat deployment of the SU-85, SU-85M and SU-100, illustrated with around 100 photographs. 1 vol, 112 pgs 2015 UK, PEKO PUBLISHING

1-198130 Taylor, Dick INTO THE VALLEY - The Valentine Tank and Derivatives 1938 - 1960 200+ b/w photos, 40+ color profiles and detail photos, 20+ scale plans.

The Valentine, unlike most British tanks to see service during WWII, began life as a private venture. That is, it was not designed to a General Staff (GS) specification, but came off the drawing-board with the intention of exciting enough interest within the military establishment to secure an order.

The Valentine had the highest production numbers of any wartime British tank, and arguably the most variations. A total of 8000+ Valentines were produced in no fewer than 11 variants. The Valentine tank received its baptism of fire with the British 8th Army in Operation Crusader in North Africa during July 1941, representing just the beginning of a long career, as they would eventually take part in combat in both the European and Pacific Theaters. After the war, Valentines served in several armies as late as 1960. Valentines also saw action with the armed forces of Canada, the Soviet Union, Poland, Australia, and New Zealand.

1-197790 Thomas, Paul GERMAN HALFTRACKS AT WAR 1939-1945 - Images of War Series In the aftermath of The Great War, which saw the introduction of the tank, the more far sighted military leaders realized that the future of warfare hinged on a balance of mobility, firepower and protection.

Tanks would need to be accompanied into battle by supporting arms, specifically infantry, artillery and engineers. An all fully-tracked field army was thought to be too expensive, so the semi-tracked support vehicle (commonly called a halftrack) was born. The halftrack concept was embraced by the French, the US and most notably Germany.

The Germans commissioned numerous types of half-tracked tractors, which were classified by the weight of their towed load. These vehicles were designated Sonderkraffarzeug (special motorized vehicle), abbreviated as Sd.Kfz. Without these vehicles the Blitzkrieg would not have been possible.

These front-wheel steering vehicles with tracked drive transformed the fighting quality of the armored divisions. They carried the infantry alongside the advancing panzers and brought guns and pontoon-bridge sections. The halftrack also became the preferred reconnaissance vehicle.

1-222580 Thomas, Paul Hitler's Light Tanks - Images of War series Hitler's Wehrmacht led the way in armored warfare as the successful blitzkriegs in Poland and North West Europe in 1940 so convincingly proved. The contribution of light tanks such as Panzers I, II and 35(t) was critical.

As the war spread to the Balkans, north Africa and the invasion of Russia, German engineers worked tirelessly modifying existing light tanks and developing new models. The growing Soviet armored threat, in particular, spawned tank destroyers such as the Marder III Panzerj?ger, SdKfz 138/1 and 139. Antiaircraft variants included the Flakpanzer 38(t) and the SdKfz 140/1 was a reconnaissance tank armed with a 20mm turret-mounted gun, developed from the SdKfz 22 armored car, whereas the Aufklarungerspanzer 38(t) carried a 7.5cm gun in the support reconnaissance role.

In the final stages of the war light tanks were phased out and the Marder and 38(t) were up-gunned; the Wespe was adapted from the Panzer II chassis.

This superbly illustrated book gives a comprehensive overview of the multitude of vehicles and variants that came into service. With the text and captions providing technical data, the images show this formidable array of fighting vehicles in action across the theaters of war.

1-83445 Vauvillier, Francois LES CANONS DE LA VICTORIE V3 l'Artillerie de Cote et l'Artillerie de Tranch?e This third volume of the Guns of Victory reviews two quite different types of equipment. First, the Coast Artillery, which played a very discreet role because the Allies had mastery of the seas. Most of the guns however became famous in another role, installed on railway carriages or on various other means of land transport adapted to a static war.

The second group, the Trench Artillery, did not exist in France at the beginning of the war and had to be developed in chaotic conditions in the unexpected context of the colossal siege warfare imposed on the belligerents on the Western Front in the autumn of 1914. From the modest grenade launcher to the gigantic 340-mm trench mortar, this very structured volume deals with all the models of this frontline artillery, scrupulously following the pattern of the two previous volumes. 1 vol, 68 pgs 2009 FRANCE, HISTOIRE & COLLEC

1-201840 Ware, Pat and Delf, Brian THE CENTURION TANK: - Images of War Series Few tank designs have been as effective, versatile and long-lived as that of the British Centurion. Conceived during the Second World War as the answer to the superior German Tiger and Panther tanks and to the lethal 88mm gun, this 52-ton main battle tank incorporated the lessons British designers had learned about armored fighting vehicles during the conflict, and it was free of the major faults that had impaired the other British tank designs of the time. The Centurion was so successful that it served in the British Army and in numerous other armies across the world from 1945 until the 1990s.

Pat Ware's highly illustrated history of this remarkable tank covers its design and development, its technical specifications and the many variants that were produced. He tells the story from the design brief of 1943, through testing and trials to the tank's entry into service. In addition, he traces the course of the Centurion's subsequent career, as it was up-dated, up-gunned and adapted to operate in varied conditions and conflicts all over the world including Korea, the Indo-Pakistan wars, Vietnam and the Arab-Israeli wars.

His expert account of this remarkable fighting vehicle is accompanied by a series of color plates showing the main variants of the design and the common ancillary equipment and unit markings. His book is an essential work of reference for enthusiasts with 90 color and b/w photos. 1 vol, 128 pgs 2013 UK, PEN AND SWORD

1-222660 Wheelwright, Julie HITLER'S TANKS: German Panzers of World War II Details the development and operational history of the light Panzer I and II, developed in the 1930s, the medium tanks that were the backbone of the Panzer Divisions, and the Tiger and formidable King Tiger, the heaviest tank to see combat in World War II. Draws on Osprey's unique and extensive armor archive.

The Panzers that rolled over Europe were Germany's most famous fighting force, and are some of the most enduring symbols of World War II. However, at the start of the war, Germany's tanks were nothing extraordinary and it was operational encounters such as facing the Soviet T-34 during Operation Barbarossa which prompted their intensive development. Tactical innovation gave them an edge where technological development had not, making Hitler's tanks a formidable enemy. 1 vol, 336 pgs 2020 UK, OSPREY PUBLISHING
