1-226070 Hilton, Barry EVERY BULLET HAS ITS BILLET A Guide to Wargaming the Late 17th Century This period saw the birth of regular armies and navies for most major European powers. Massive battles were fought on land and at sea from the frozen winters of Scandinavia to the searing summer heat of North Africa. Alliances were agreed, broken and remade and thrones changed hands in the name of religion and the pursuit of power.

This guide provides the kind of information wargamers require to take the step into one of military history's most colourful eras. It offers overviews of the main conflicts and outlines major, minor, and unusual battles.

Covers how to create and paint your troops, information on uniforms and flags, which regiments fought where, the evolution of tactics and battlefield doctrines, and information on the legendary commanders who created them is all included.

The book is designed to act as a reference source and is not aligned with any particular rule set. Includes 108 color photos, 9 b/w illustrations, and 4 color maps.1 vol, 124 pgs 2020 UK, HELION AND COMPANY

1-218973 Lyall, Charles UNIFORMS OF THE ARMIES AT WATERLOO: Volume 3 - Prussian Army Contains a description of the 16 June 1815 Battle of Ligny that was fought at the same time as the Battle of Quatre Bras. Like in the two previous volumes, the plates by the 19th century artist Charles Lyall are critiqued based on current knowledge of the uniforms, equipment, and weapons. A detailed description of the Prussian forces' organization and uniforms supplements Lyall's illustrations. Two maps from William Siborne's rare atlas facilitate understanding of the course of the Battle of Ligny. This fills a long-standing gap of a comprehensive work on the Prussian Army of 1815. 1 vol, 96 pgs 2019, GERMANY, BERLIN ZINNFIGUREN

1-226100 Colvin, James EIGHTH ARMY VERSUS ROMMEL: Tactics, Training and Operations in North Africa 1940-1942 Covers the Desert War from 1940 through the Battle of Alamein in 1942. Examines the undertrained and underfunded pre-war British Army, contrasting its leadership with its opposite numbers in Germany, and demonstrates how and why Eighth Army had difficulties in its first 18 months of fighting the Afrika Korps. Includes 30 b/w photos and 11 b/w maps.

Also examines the battles from the perspective of the commanders, the decisions they made and how cultural influences effected tactics and decisions of the Eighth Army high command. Ultimately, British commanders were as much the product of their military culture and education as Rommel and his commanders were of theirs, but British military culture and education was, for much of this period, markedly less fit for purpose than the German. 1 vol, 262 pgs 2020 UK, HELION AND COMPANY

1-226131 Rikhye, Ravi INDO-PAKISTANI WAR OF 1971: V1 Indian Military Intervention in East Pakistan The end of British rule in India and quick subdivision into India and Pakistan neglected to settle ownership of the Kashmir region. This triggered five wars between the new states: 1947-48, 1965, 1971, 1999 and continuing insurgency/counterinsurgency that began in 1987. Two other potential wars were narrowly averted in 1987-88 and 2001-02, and a limited one fought in 1999.

In 1970, East Pakistan voted for independence and armed rebellion. A quick and nasty counterinsurgency suppressed the rebellion. India, seizing the chance to change the balance of power, first backed East Pakistan, then on 21 and 22 November 1971 invaded with eight divisions. India planned also to attack West Pakistan to recover Kashmir, but at the last moment the offensive was called off due to Soviet pressure. Pakistan attacked pre-emptively, and an all-out war resulted. East Pakistan was overrun by India on 16 December; the US and Soviet forced a ceasefire in the West only a day later. For the first time in 800 years, a predominantly Hindu army defeated a Muslim army.

1-226121 Rookes, Stephen RIPE FOR REBELLION: V1 Insurgency and Covert War in the Congo, 1960-1965 The Belgian Congo received its independence in June 1960, starting a bitter internecine political battle which would tear the Congo apart. Hundreds of white mercenaries then were hired for the secession of Katanga province, but ultimately the UN forced them out and ended the rebellion in 1963.

Other rebellions, notably Stanleyville, Kindu, and Kivu Rebellions, aided by the Soviet Union, Republic of China, and radical African governments, became a proxy war between the East and the West. That drew the US into the conflict. Includes 85 b/w photos, 1 color and 6 b/w maps, 16 color profiles, 6 color figures, and 3 tables

1-226122 Rookes, Stephen FOR GOD AND THE CIA: Cuban Exile Forces in the Congo and Beyond Sequel to Ripe for Rebllion covers CIA activities starting in 1962 during the Congo Crisis by fielding a small air force that grew rapidly in size and power and provided air cover to government forces in operations against anti-government forces up to 1967.

The CIA then fielded a naval force to patrol Congolese waters and to prepare areas for attacks made by mercenaries. The presence of this navy proved to be crucial in limiting supplies and persuaded Ernesto 'Che' Guevara that his attempt to provoke widespread communist revolution in Central Africa was forlorn. Details how over 150 Cuban exiles known as the Makasi were recruited for missions in the Congo.
