1-234800 Nesbitt, Will BLOOD OF ANCIENTS: Wargame Rules D10-based miniatures rules with minimal references to charts concentrates on charge and maneuver. Command radius allows for inspiration, but out of command troops are unreliable. We recommend using a hex grid (less arguments) on the table, with one unit per hex. A unit is composed of 4 to 12 bases of figures. One stand of 15mm figures or 1 individually based 28mm figure still equals 40 to 50 combatants. If you don't have or like hexes, the rules provide convert info to free form measurements.

Protect your flanks, use skirmishers to shield other units, and cavalry can be a powerful offensive weapon, but shaky in defense. Massed troops will last longer in combat, but ranged weapons are most effective when fired at massed troops.1 vol, 122 pgs 2022 US, MILITARY MINIATURE PRESS

1-666146 Garcia, Eladio ORBETELLO 1646 The Battle of Orbetello, also known as the Battle of Isola del Giglio, was a major naval engagement of the Franco-Spanish War of 1635. It was fought on 14 June 1646 off the Spanish-ruled town of Orbetello, on the coast of Tuscany, Italy, between a French fleet led by Admiral Armand de Maille, Marquis of Breze, and a Spanish fleet commanded by Miguel de Noronha, 4th Count of Linhares sent to break the blockade of Orbetello and relieve the town, besieged since 12 May by a French army under the command of Prince Thomas of Savoy. The Battle of Orbetello was tactically very unusual, since it was fought by sailing ships towed by galleys in a light breeze.

After a hard but inconclusive fight during which Admiral Breze was killed, the French fleet withdrew to Toulon leaving the sea to the Spanish, who decided not to pursue them to relieve Orbetello. The land forces disembarked by Count of Linhares a few days later, however, failed to dislodge the French lines, and the siege could be undertaken until 24 July, when another Spanish army led by the Marquis of Torrecuso and the Duke of Arcos, which had come from the Kingdom of Naples across the Papal States, defeated the besieging French troops, forcing them to retreat with heavy losses.1 vol, 80 pgs 2022 SPAIN, ALMENA

1-235321 Orr, David ULSTER WILL FIGHT: Volume 1 - Home Rule and the Ulster Volunteer Force 1886-1922 The various attempts at Home Rule for Ireland ultimately culminated in the Third Home Rule Bill which directly contributed to the creation of the Ulster Volunteer Force. The UVF spanned not just the geographic rural and urban Protestant Ulster from the Atlantic coast of Donegal to the shipyards of east Belfast but also the diverse political ideals of individuals.

Describes the Home Rule period and the Ulster Volunteer Force formed in response to the Home Rule crises. An important period in Irish politics and history this book draws on a number of first-hand accounts, contemporary newspaper reports, UVF papers and records from the Somme Museum. It is illustrated by a number of images never before published. Includes 350 b&w photos and maps.

By the outbreak of the Great War it had become an organization of armed volunteers, the first to use motorcycle dispatch riders and motor transport on a large scale and the first to use armored lorries in street patrols. It was also one of the first in the twentieth century to recognize the varied role for women in warfare against a backdrop of a rise in women's suffrage in the United Kingdom and the United States of America. The importance, role and significance of the existence of the UVF are well summed up in Sir Winston Churchill's book, Great Contemporaries, that if Ulster had confined herself simply to constitutional agitation, it is extremely improbable that she would have escaped forcible inclusion in a Dublin Parliament.

1-235330 Rogalski, Wielaw SPECIAL OPERATIONS EXECUTIVE: Polish Section - The Death of the Second Polish Republic The primary aim of Special Operations Executive: Polish Section is to ascertain the ultimate effectiveness of SOE assistance provided to the Second Polish Republic during the Second World War. The first chapter examines early contacts made between British and Polish military authorities following the signing of the pact of mutual assistance between the two countries in 1939.

The second chapter analyses certain issues pertaining to the Polish forces prior to the opening of conflict, namely the shortages of modern equipment, military know-how and a defensive plan. Chapter three looks at the Polish defensive war, its failure and the consequences of defeat. The narrative then follows the retreat of the Polish Government together with remnants of the Polish forces to France and then to Britain. This is followed by an examination of the nascent underground resistance movement.

The subsequent chapter looks SOE origins and the establishment of SOE Polish Section, focusing on the unique relationship that developed between the Poles and the Polish Section. It considers the training of Polish Special Forces in Britain by SOE and their subsequent parachuting deep behind enemy lines in Poland. The difficulties surrounding the establishment of an effective air bridge between the West and occupied Poland and how ensuing problems were overcome is also considered. Events drastically change when the Soviet Union joins the western allies after Operation Barbarossa. This precipitated a significant adjustment in the relationship between the Polish Section, Prime Minister Winston Churchill, and the Poles.

The difficulty being Moscow's policy to dismantle the Second Republic in favor of a communist People's Republic of Poland after the war. The conundrum for London was how to continue championing the Second Republic authorities exiled in London, whilst at the same time supporting the Soviet campaign on the Eastern Front. Thus, as the war progressed, Britain could not bring itself to alienate Moscow. Incluides 5 b/w illustrations, 6 b/w photos, 35 maps, and 1 diagram.1 vol, 254 pgs 2022 UK, HELION AND COMPANY
