Davey, Graham GUARDS OF TRAITOR'S TOLL: Skirmish Adventure Game
Gameplay is semi-cooperative. Both players control a Guard Captain and patrol of five guardsmen, who must deal with the many challenges hidden among the crowds. Such tasks might be capturing an escaped prisoner, battling a crazed wizard, locating a lost child, taking down a smuggling gang or investigating a mystery. While they have the same goals, each side is trying to make the most arrests, grab the glory, and win recognition (and reward) from their superiors. Gain experience, recruit allies, and locate useful items - the odd bribe will be useful too. A degree of violence will be necessary but killing suspects will upset the populace. If there is too much discontent, the people riot and rebel - the city lords will be furious (and both players lose). The game has a strong narrative, legacy element as your guards develop new skills and learn secrets that impact subsequent tasks as well as later games. Models supplied unassembled and unpainted.
Contents: * 36 Multi-part 28mm plastic figures (24 Cityfolk, 12 City Guards) * 112 page Rulebook (includes city map, background, and story-driven linked campaign) * 108 Gaming Cards (24 Recruitment cards, 2 Identify cards, 6 Trait cards, 18 Plot cards, 2 Major Plot cards, 37 Secret cards, 15 Advance cards) * 8 Custom Dice * 1 D6 * 108 Counters * 36 Dual Use Plastic Bases1 vol, 1 pgs

Callwell, C.E. THE LIFE OF SIR STANLEY MAUDE LIEUTENANT GENERAL K.C.B., C.M.G., D.S.O.
Lieutenant General Maude is perhaps unfortunately mostly remembered for his part in the evacuation of Gallipoli. During the evacuation, Maude worked hard to ensure that Headquarters Kit was evacuated, whether by this he meant the headquarters paperwork or his personal kit is unknown, but he arrived at the beach just minutes before the last boat left. This pushes into the background his service in the Boar War, as well as his brigade command at the beginning of the first world war in France, and then his hard work in Mesopotamia leading to the recapture of Kut and Baghdad in 1917.1 vol, 330 pgs

Wipperman, Darin THUNDERBOLT TO THE REBELS: The United States Sharpshooters in the Civil War
Sharpshooters were the elite of the Union army. Tells the story of these Civil War deadeyes on battlefields from Antietam to Gettysburg and beyond. During the first year of the Civil War, Hiram Berdan proposed the creation of a unit of marksmen armed with Sharps rifles, and thus were born the 1st and 2nd U.S. Sharpshooters. Drawn heavily from the Upper Midwest and New England, as well as Pennsylvania, the soldiers had to pass a marksmanship test to join: 10 shots in a 10-inch-diameter circle from 200 yards. Draws on primary sources, especially eyewitness accounts, to reveal how these elite marksmen lived, fought, and died during the Civil War. Contains eight maps and 13 tables.1 vol, 304 pgs

Edited by Wilson, John OPERATIONS OF THE MOUNTED TROOPS OF THE EGYPTIAN EXPEDITIONARY FORCE
The E.E.F. came into being in March 1916 from the remnants of the British troops from Gallipoli and the troops already in Egypt, although it lost ten of its fourteen infantry divisions to other theaters in quick order. The multinational force of Australians, New Zealanders, Indians, and British Territorial troops became a strategic reserve for the British Army. This book was originally published as a series of 10 articles in the Cavalry Journal between 1921 and 1923. The articles were an attempt to bring together learning form what was probably the last major cavalry campaign.1 vol, 365 pgs

Published in August 1916, just seven months after the evacuation of Gallipoli, detailing events and his thoughts and observations during the campaign. Kannengiesser, Hans THE CAMPAIGN IN GALLIPOLI
Major General Hans Kannengeisser was initially employed to conduct an inspection of the Ottoman forces in Northern Anatolia, to assess their ability to mobilize for war; but on the outbreak of war, he found that his role would significantly change. Initially expecting to be recalled to Germany, he was given the Ottoman rank of Pasha and led the 9th Division of Von Sanders' fifth army during the Gallipoli campaign. This book offers a rare opportunity to study the campaign on Gallipoli from the Central Powers side and takes care to pay tribute to the courage of all the combatant nations.1 vol, 237 pgs

Balkoski, Joseph OMAHA BEACH: D-Day, June 6, 1944

Balkoski, Joseph UTAH BEACH: The Amphibious Landing and Airborne Operations on D-Day, June 6, 1944
Although the assault on Utah Beach ultimately became one of the most successful military operations of World War II, its outcome was anything but certain. Not only was Utah the most isolated of the five D-Day beaches, but the airborne assault was of unprecedented size and complexity. Despite the perils, American troops confidently cascaded into that far corner of Normandy and contributed decisively to the Allied triumph on D-Day. With verve and authority, Balkoski describes how that victory was won. Contains 35 black and white photos.1 vol, 404 pgs

Diamond, Jon IWO JIMA: The Marine Corps' Epic Victory
The campaign for Iwo Jima (Operation Detachment) from 19 February-26 March 1945 pitted the USMC Fifth Amphibious Corps (VAC) and the USN's Fifth Fleet against the IJA 109th Division and assorted IJN ground troops under the command of Lieutenant General Tadamichi Kuribayashi. After neutralizing Japanese air assets on Iwo Jima, the objective was to seize Iwo Jima's two completed airfields in the southern and central sectors and make them operational after the heavy pre- and post-invasion aerial, naval, and Marine artillery bombardment. USAAF 7th Fighter Command would then have a base from which to escort the four-engine B-29 heavy bombers on their Japanese Home Islands' raids from their Mariana Islands bases and to provide emergency airfields for battle-damaged or low-on-fuel Superfortresses on their return flight that otherwise would have crashed in the sea.
The combined American force numbered over 100,000 troops against 20,933 Japanese soldiers and sailors. Kuribayashi's defences were so well fortified with caves, tunnels and daunting terrain that the VAC lost 6,821 KIA and 19,217 wounded compared to approximately 18,000 Japanese troops KIA or MIA with only 216 prisoners taken. In a 'mopping up' phase to clear the remaining Japanese hidden in the island's caves, the Army's 147th IR, 37th Division captured an additional 867 prisoners. This epic USMC campaign resulted in an unprecedented ratio of three American casualties for every two Japanese soldiers. In all, 2,251 emergency B-29 landings were made saving the lives of almost 25,000 aircrew members. The flag raisings atop Mount Suribachi on 23 February 1945 galvanized American morale at home. Hallas, James GUAM: The Battle for an American Island in World War II
Drawing from extensive archival research and firsthand accounts, reconstructs this pivotal 1944 campaign that transformed a Japanese island fortress into a vital American base through the eyes of the Marines, soldiers, and sailors who fought there. Details the devastating pre-invasion bombardment that pounded Japanese defenses for 13 straight days; the bloody beach landings where frogmen teams led the way while under fire; the Japanese counterattacks that sometimes inflicted 50 percent casualties on American units; as well as the brutal combat through jungles, swamps, and cave networks in suffocating tropical heat. Weaves together strategic overview with intimate human drama, from the commanders who planned the invasion to the front-line troops who executed it. Takes an in-depth look at the training, equipment, and culture of the Brigade of Guards, and how that influenced the two formations' preparedness for war. Explores how the Guards were able to adapt to changing conditions on the battlefield and adopt new operational and tactical procedures. Besenyo, Janos WAGNER GROUP - PRIVATE MILITARY COMPANY: Volume 1 - Establishment, Purpose, Profile and Historic Relevance 2013-2023
Examines the predecessors to the Wagner Group, its activities in a number of conflicts around the world, and its armed mutiny against the top leadership of the Russian Federation. Looks at the profession of arms as practiced by mercenaries throughout history and the emergence of the modern private military company in the late twentieth and early twenty-first centuries, along with the failed Slavonic Corps and Moran Security Group, often mistaken for early incarnations of Wagner. Examines the emergence of the Wagner Group, its connection to the Russian government, security and intelligence services, and its operations in Syria, Libya, Sub-Saharan Africa, and Venezuela as an extension of Russian foreign policy, often displacing Western interests, and as a private organization primarily concerned with securing access to the world's oil and mineral resources for its owners and sponsors. Illustrated with original color photographs showing the Wagner group's activities and its iconography, along with color artworks highlighting the unusual equipment employed in many of the group's activities.
