1-227870 Esposito, Gabriele NAPOLEON'S IMPERIAL GUARD: Organization, Uniforms and Weapons A detailed analysis of the organization, uniforms, and weapons of the French Imperial Guard created by Napoleon I. Describes how this large military body evolved from the Consular Guard created by Bonaparte as early as 1799 and came to include dozens of different military units belonging to each branch of service (infantry, cavalry, artillery, and specialist corps). The Imperial Guard was a 'miniature army' made up of veteran soldiers, who were dressed in spectacular and elegant uniforms. 50 color illustrations

The Guard also included several 'exotic' non-French units that are also covered in the text: Egyptian Mamelukes, Polish and Lithuanian lancers, Tatar scouts, Dutch grenadiers and lancers. The way in which Napoleon employed the Guard in battle is discussed and also how it differed from the rest of the French Army in terms of military dress and weaponry.1 vol, 160 pgs 2021 UK, PEN & SWORD

This extensively illustrated volume tells the dramatic yet successful story of US aircraft carriers in World War II by class, ranging from early pre-war designs to escort carriers built from destroyer hulls, to the gigantic fleet carriers serving as the predecessors of modern-day super carriers.

Besides covering the famous great carrier battles in the Pacific, this book also tells of the equally important actions of US flat tops hunting and destroying German U-boats in the Atlantic, making an enormous contribution to the elimination of the U-boat dangers and the safe arrival of transatlantic supplies, so desperately needed for the launch of D-Day.

Moreover, the reader learns about the technical evolution of US carriers throughout the war and the various aircraft launched from these magnificent vessels to engage their Japanese or German foes. 1-22539011 Crippa, Paolo THE DIVISIONS OF THE ARMY OF THE RSI 1943-1944: Volume 1 Two-volume set examines the Divisions formed by the Army of the RSI as well as the departments used in the fight against the partisans by the Republican National Army, starting from the last months of 1943.

The purpose of 'continuing the war' had always been present since the beginning of autumn 1943 in the military authorities of the Social Republic. During talks between Mussolini and Hitler it was agreed to form a new fascist army of 10 to 15 divisions. In reality, only 4 were planned and formed by the Republican National Army: 1st Bersaglieri Division 'Italy,' 2nd Grenadiers Division 'Littorio,' 3rd Marine Division 'San Marco,' and 4th Alpine Division 'Monterosa.'

This first volume covers the 1st Bersaglieri Division 'Italy,' which operated on the southern front in Garfagnana, against the Allies, until the end of the war, and the 2nd Grenadiers Division 'Littorio.'1 vol, 100 pgs 2021 ITALY, SOLDIER SHOP

Armored units were scattered in Italy and abroad and the book examines how they acted after the Armistice.

It also includes the heroic episodes of Resistance which occurred in Piombino, Parma, Piacenza, and Sardinia, without forgetting what happened to the armored units outside the national borders. The text concludes with the discussion of the (failed) attempts to reconstitute armored units with the co-belligerent Royal Army and the contribution made by armored units to the liberation struggle.1 vol, 100 pgs 2021 ITALY, SOLDIER SHOP

1-227850 Diamond, Jon THE LIBERATION OF THE PHILIPPINES: Images of War series General Douglas A MacArthur, Commander of the Southwest Pacific Area, saw the liberation of the Philippines Archipelago as the launching board for the invasion of the Japanese Home Islands. By late 1944, with the capture of New Guinea and surrounding islands, the US Sixth and Eighth Armies were poised for the challenge. Includes 250 black and white illustrations

American forces landed on Leyte on 20 October 1944 with the Leyte Gulf naval battle quickly following. By 25 December the island was cleared opening the way for Lieutenant General Walter Krueger's Sixth Army to invade Luzon on 9 January 1945. Bitter Japanese resistance required Eichelberger's Eighth Army as reinforcements. Manila finally fell on 4 March. In the meantime Bataan was captured on 16 February and Corregidor on 2 March after a US airborne assault. Fighting continued and MacArthur finally declared the liberation of the Archipelago on 5 July, just a month before the atom bombs fell on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.1 vol, 192 pgs 2021 UK, PEN & SWORD

1-2171220 Tiquet, Pierre GERMAN TANK DESTROYERS: WWII Examines the development and deployment of all the tank destroyers used by the German army including the Hornisse, Jagdpanzer 38, Jagdpanzer IV, and Elefant. Includes 250 color and black-and-white photographs and illustrations.

From the early days of World War II, it was clear that the Wehrmacht's antitank units would need to be motorized as existing horse- or automobile-drawn units were too slow to be effective. Initially, antitank guns were mounted onto available, usually obsolete, tank chassis, such as the Panzerjager I and II. However German engineers would soon turn to the heavy chassies of the Panzer IV, the Panther, and the Tiger for their tank hunters.

It became apparent during the invasion of France that enemy antitank guns were both more powerful and better armored, and improvement became a priority during Barbarossa as German units faced off against the new Soviet tanks. The appearance of the Soviet T-34 in July 1941 meant that the Germans had to quickly come up with something equally powerful. The result was the motorized panzerjager, faster and more mobile than older towed versions. This was followed in 1942 by the introduction of the 75mm gun. Further designs and modifications were informed by reports from the front line.

Some of these conversions were very successful and resulted in fearsome tank destroyers deployed to great effect by the Wehrmacht. The lightweight Hetzer, for example, was based on a modified Panzer 38(t) and entered service in 1944. This small tank became Germany's main tank destroyer during the final stages of the war, and would continue in use around the world even after 1945. Though they may not have looked that intimidating, the Landser were soon won over, and were comforted to have something reliable to stand between them and the Soviet tanks.1 vol, 192 pgs 2021 US, CASEMATE

1-956080 various WORLD AT WAR # 80: Hannut: France 1940 Wargame Hannut: France 1940 is a two-player operational level simulation of the battle fought during the Battle of Belgium that took place between 12 and 14 May 1940 at Hannut in Belgium. The primary purpose of the Germans was to tie down the strongest elements of the French 1st Army and keep it away from the main German attack by Army Group A through the Ardennes. The delay was to entice the Allies into believing the main thrust would come through Belgium and then down into France.

The ensuing battle was the largest clash of tanks in armored warfare history at the time. Hannut uses a simplified version of the Grand Operational Simulation Series (GOSS) rules that depict WWII combat at the battalion level. Each hex on the map is one mile. Units are battalions and companies. Each AM and PM game turn (GT) represents about one-half of available daylight hours. Night GTs extend through the hours of darkness.

1-227860 Whitehead, Jonathan SPANISH REPUBLICANS AND THE SECOND WORLD WAR: Republic Across the Mountains Tells the stories of the 500,000 Spanish Republicans who fled across the Pyrenees in 1939 as Catalonia fell to Franco's victorious army in the final weeks of the Spanish Civil War. Many of the exiles played an active part in WWII -- some joined the French and British armed forces and saw action in various theaters including Africa and Europe (both in 1940 and after D-Day).

In August 1944, Spanish Republicans in the La Nueve Company of General Leclerc's Deuxieme Blindee were the first Allied troops into Paris during the liberation of the French capital. Those that had remained in Vichy France were active in the early days of the French Resistance, and Republican Maquis also played a significant part in the liberation of the south-west of France in 1944.

Those who fought the Axis troops in Spain during the Civil War and then again in France assumed that once the Allies had defeated the Nazis, they would launch a military campaign to overthrow Franco's government in Spain. In October 1944, a force of thousands of Spanish Maquis took part in Operacion Reconquista, the invasion of the Valley of Aran on the Spanish side of the Pyrenees. Their declared aim was to trigger a popular uprising and force the Allies to intervene against Franco's dictatorship.

Also examines the role of the Spanish volunteers of the Division Azul who swore an oath of allegiance to Hitler and fought with the Wehrmacht on the Eastern Front; the role of the master double-agent Garbo, who played a crucial part in the success of D-Day; the strategic importance of Gibraltar; and the activities of the British diplomatic corps and secret services in resisting Hitler's plans to invade the Iberian Peninsula.1 vol, 192 pgs 2021 UK, PEN & SWORD

1-963055 MODERN WAR #55: Objective: Hamburg (7DR #5) Wargame Objective Hamburg is a two-player alternative history wargame intended to investigate the operational parameters that would have been in place during the first four days of fighting in that border area of West Germany had the Soviet Union decided to try to attack sometime in the early 1980s. It was during that time frame the Warsaw Pact achieved a possible decisive 'correlation of forces' between their militaries and those of the West.

This game is the fifth and final volume of the 7DR (Seven Days to the Rhine) Series. Each single-volume game uses the same system and will be playable alone or combined with other games in the series. Each hexagon on the map represents 2.5 miles (four kilometers) from side to opposite side. The Warsaw Pact units are regiments, while NATO units are battalions. Air power and electronic warfare counters and rules abstractly represent, the effects of one side or the other gaining temporary superiority within those sub-realms of conflict. Each day of real time consists of one night-time and two daylight turns.1 vol, 84 pgs 2021 US, DECISION GAMES
